VBF-12_Stele Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Hi Pat. Always amazed with PWCG. I always try to run a mission after a long day's work with a generated mission. I was wondering if there are any plans to somehow export the campaign information to text or a spreadsheet? If a squadron is flying together I'm wondering if there would be an easy way to show them rather than the host trying to convey that information verbally. I could see taking the reported information and uploading it to a squad page over time with stats, map, etc just using a raw bit of information to upload. I'm sure you're a busy guy, and this is just one of many requests I'm sure. ?

Even easier, just zip your User directory and send it via email. If they drop it into their PWCG install they can see the campaign just as you can.

Could you use this method to share a co-op campaign between multiple hosts? We have a group of 5 or 6 people spread across EU and US time zones and would like the flexibility of having multiple people able to host in case timings don't work out.

Just remember that whoever ran the AAR or made other changes to the campaign has to distribute the updated campaign. I would recommend that one person be the keeper of the "gold copy".
Firenz Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) Great, thanks for the response. We will try it. Edited December 8, 2020 by Firenz

Way back I had started some client/server code to automate the process. I abandoned it. PWCG has no network code - zero. It never tries to leave your computer. As I was writing the campaign distribution stuff I realized I was setting myself up to A. Host a server forever more. B. Create code that I would now have to worry very much about the security of other people's machines. I decided ... no.
pakfront Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I was thinking using github or a similar version control site might work well for sharing the files.

GitHub is for source control. PWCG is on GitHub . I have not heard of GitHub being used for data transfer, which is what campaign data distribution is. Having said that, anybody can set up a common file share (Drop Box, etc.) and just drop the PWCG zips into it. Give others permission to do the same. There is a bit of risk involved in getting out of synch, so coop players who choose to do this have to be careful. Other than that it's not a big deal - just make sure you have the latest version of the campaign.
UlyssesCockmore Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 One way to share the information with your group might be screen sharing via any one of the VOIP apps e.g. Discord, Skype, etc. My group doesn't use it for PWCG, but we have used screen sharing in Discord quite effectively to run an RPG campaign.

The reason I suggested it was that it allows the repo owner (reference player?) to merge in changes from branches and forks, as I'm sure you know. This can be used as a form of permission control to prevent multiple users from overwriting the same data. It's probably a bad idea , as you point out there are much simpler solutions such as Dropbox.
