DirectX 11 update necessary for the ME?

Since i have the ME crashing since 4.501 sometimes often, sometimes OK for quite a while i wonder if this update helps. (NVIDIA and Windows LTSC)

Also as i posted elsewhere Surface Edit and Height dropdown menus keep disappearing. Running ResetEditorSettings.cmd from the bin-editor folder fixes this, but only once,

Alas they disappear again on next ME boot.. See picture below.

Tried this registry change, reccommended pointing to DirectX 11 for games i understood, did not help, but maybe with the crashes:

If the above does not work, open Start, type: regedit
Right click regedit
Click Run as administrator

Navigate to the following keys:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\DirectX

Then change the key 4.09.00.0904 to 4.08.00.0904

Did the surface edit and height ever work?  I thought it was disabled.

yep, and lots of users have no problems it seems. It disappeared from my 'dancefloor' with 4.501, and my guess is lots of ME users dont miss it.

Alas I do as i was in the process of modding some parts of the Rheinland map which are not in de factory map.

PS i did those registry edits, and run the ME in win7 compatibility (supposedly forcing DirectX 11).

ME seems more stable, but surface edit etc is still missing.

 

But i found it is back if you use the reset command, and DISABLE open last mission ... open your missions manually.
