Z Rocker Flaps - How to assign them as buttons?

Greetings all, first time posting here and I'm hoping someone can help me. Apologies if this has been asked before, I feel like I've tried and searched everything. 

 

I've recently been setting up a Thrustmaster T.16000M joystick and TWCS throttle and I'm firmly stuck.

 

What I'd like to do is have the Z-Rocker work as a rudder trim or tank turret control and the mini-stick to look around the cockpit. Unfortunately out of the box they both spring back to the centre once you release them. No good for trim and I can't get the mini-stick to work on view anyway. 

 

I've tried using Thrustmasters TARGET software but it's not working. I've also attempted to use Joystick Gremlin w/ VJoy and a few others which don't support XYZ axis. 

Before I potentially waste anymore time, is there a way to do this?

Issue with TARGET is my Joystick will disappear when using it. Joystick Gremlin I can't figure out how to have two XYZ controls and I can't seem to get it to work in IL-2.

 

Any help would be appreciated and apologies if this has been asked before.
