Are shorter German missions possible in BoB campaigns?

I’m playing several campaign in BoB , 2 or 3 Allied ones with different planes and started a Bf-109 G campaign as well, but it is stalled for/by me.The reason? Well the airfield I fly from is about 100km and I am forced ( perhaps unrealistically,) a long way to fly to the front. It takes forever to get there and then if I survive to fly back. I can leave the room and do something else for ten minutes and come back to see where I am ( even when compressing time 8X.) So I wonder if I need to just cancel this abortive campaign and maybe find another airfield to fly from. Has anyone else had better luck with German campaigns on this BoB map ? I’d appreciate some advice...thanks!

Nope - LW had to use airfields far behind the front to have any chance to get to the air at all...

What is unrealistic is that Germans reach their mission area uncontested. Most missions should be intercepted by allied fighters en route.

But gameplaywise I‘m with you - less marching more fighting would be more fun.

Could be achieved by either more interceptions as described above or more defensive missions over own territory. The III/JG54 would be an extreme example as basically their ONLY Job for some time was to protect their own airfield during takeoff and landing of the valuable Jets.

That would of course be boring as well - realism isn’t always fun. But I think there are some ways to get more fun out of German campaigns without compromising realism too much...

For me the lack of variety in opposition is even more boring. Mustangs and Lightnings were virtually omnipresent over Germany 1944/45 - they should spawn as enemy...

A "skip to action" function would be great, though.

You're not always in the mood of flying around for ages, 'till something happens.

Sometimes, you're just coming home from work - in the mood for blowing stuff up ?

Air start then...

But I like to take off, I just don’t like uneventful marching ^^

Not the news I had hoped for...

That doesn't do much in your favor. You're usually air-starting just beyond the perimeter of your airfield.

Also: The lack of droptanks can be noticed. Flying the D-9 career you'll often spend quite some time fighting other airplanes, making you hawk that fuel-gauge on the way back.

I'm usually commuting back to base at high altitudes and low powersettings...

Yep, take off and landing are key parts of a flight; timeskip until  'enemies near' or a waypoint is reached is the answer but as I understand it is currently impossible (because the battle is 'living').

A change from this approach would be excellent, but I suspect, like simplified AI bomber flight and gunners,  the aspiration for 'purity' over entertainment will not see it happen.

I flew maybe 3 p38 missions in the career but then gave up because of the distances and lack of events; just ended up going and doing the washing up instead whilst the computer flew home.

Proper radio chatter would help, the risk of random engine problems, change of target/landing site whilst in flight, map tools to help navigation, that sort of thing could also fill out flights and make the player feel needed.
