kisschicken Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Just got a 3070 and immediately tried to run 1.3 supersampling with 8x MSAA and ultra settings on my Quest 2. Looks amazing but was getting 35fps. Does anyone have recommendations for best settings for a 3070?

Looks amazing but was getting 35fps. Does anyone have recommendations for best settings for a 3070? Well, I kinda think you're answering your own question there. ? Basically you need to decide if you're trying to hit 45 FPS ASW (where the headset creates fake frames every other frame) or trying to hit 90 FPS without it. To hit 90 FPS you also require a good CPU and fast RAM, so depending on the rest of your rig that might be out of reach. You should tune the settings to your liking. For example, I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference between 2x and 8x MSAA. With a 1.3 supersample, you might be able to get away with zero FXAA/MSAA. Similarly, a lot of people bump the settings up to Ultra and get crappy frame rates. Some people think high quality clouds are more important than other effects, some people want High/Ultra shadows. A lot of it is personal preference. If the game is running too slow, use Oculus Tray Tool to enable the Performance HUD and Latency Timing. This gives you a graph showing whether it's CPU or GPU (or both) that is taking too long. To hit 90 FPS you need 11ms frame times. 2
Bernard_IV Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 What is your processor speed and ram speed? Start dropping down the MSAA and clouds and see where that gets you. It's not worth it to run high graphics with a poor framerate in VR, very uncomfortable.

Processor is a 3600x and there's 32GB of DDR4 3600 ram. I took Alonzo's suggestions and disabled ASW, switched to low MSAA (2x), and dialed back the supersampling to 1.2. Interestingly, changing the supersampling in the Oculus app gave me a few more frames than applying the same supersampling with OTT. I'm getting 90FPS now and it looks pretty good. Also raised shadows to ultra, which I think made everything look a bit nicer. Here are my settings: 3dhud = 0 adapter = 0 bloom_enable = 0 canopy_ref = 0 desktop_center = 1 detail_rt_res = 1024 draw_distance = 0.54500 far_blocks = 0 fps_counter = 0 fps_limit = 0 full_height = 768 full_width = 1024 fullscreen = 1 gamma = 0.90000 grass_distance = 100.00000 hdr_enable = 1 land_anisotropy = 2 land_tex_lods = 3 max_cache_res = 1 max_clouds_quality = 2 mgpu_compatible = 0 mirrors = 1 msaa = 1 multisampling = 1 or_ca = 0.00000 or_dummy = 0 or_enable = 1 or_height = 1984 or_hud_rad = 1.50000 or_hud_size = 0.75000 or_ipd = 0.06785 or_sipdc = 0.00000 or_width = 1968 post_sharpen = 1 preset = 2 prop_blur_max_rpm_for_vr = 155 rescale_target = 1.00000 shadows_quality = 4 ssao_enable = 1 stereo_dof = 5.00000 vsync = 0 win_height = 768 win_width = 1024
Bernard_IV Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Sounds good. Any processor speed you can get will help you. That DRAM is good.
Asgar Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 @kisschicken thanks for posting your settings, my Quest 2 is due to arrive this week and i'm gonna give those a try. o7
