Should mission objectives be inside the yellow mission box?

Two of my fighter missions have generated intercept targets far outside the yellow mission box.  Is that normal?  I'm on the Kuban map and using v11.6.1.

 

I'm Flying out of Severskaya (grid 1126).  The yellow mission box goes over the front lines, from about 0818 to 1121.  My objectives for the two fighter missions have been out on the Kuban peninsula, far outside the box: intercept around 0609 and intercept around 0614.

Not necessarily.  If a target of the selected target type is not in the box then a suitable target will be chosen outside.
