[80 years ago today] " • The US Navy places a production contract for the Consolidated PB2Y Coronado long range patrol bomber. Intended as a replacement for the PBY Catalina, the Coronado will be found inferior and used mostly for transport and the evacuation of wounded in the Pacific where its greater cargo capacity is useful."
