So after the latest update when I open missions and/or make templates for Moscow, all seasons, I find that the roads and the rails are ~50-100m up in the air.  Other maps don't seem to be affected.  Is this happening to anyone else?

I tried Dutch2's suggestion from back when this happened after the 4.008 update, Open mission in ME, Select all, Shift + Page Up 5 times, but that didn't work.

Trains and vehicles still run but the roads and rails they traverse float above them.

This is the second time (see above) this has happened.  What's the dang deal? :scratch_one-s_head:

Please don't tell me I need to re-download the game.  Not again.  ?

Sometimes this happens when you run the game and the editor at the same time.

I'm not.  I can't.

If the Editor is open and I try to start the game I get the message that an instance of Il-2 is already running.

If the game is running and I find a way to Alt/Tab to the desktop and try and run the Editor I get the same message, usually followed by a game and Editor crash.

I wish I could run both at the same time as it would same checking missions in progress or at least test run missions through the ME like you could with 1946's FMB.

It can be done, Sketch told me how he does it but even he said that it doesn't always work and when it does it's pretty much a slide show.

I thought I had seen something similar in another thread in the technical issues forum not too long ago. Here's someone noting floating trees, they dont say a specific map though:

He says that new RADEON drivers fixed the issue. You are on an AMD card, correct? I wonder if its the same issue. You could try updating drivers and finding out.

Maybe fly the mission and post a track of it in that thread - Rapidus is following that thread so he would see it pretty quickly, and maybe have a solution.

I too have latest drivers, 20.11.2.

I'm seeing it in the ME.  I'll run a mission and see if it is there too and record track

(later that evening...)

I live in the Twilight Zone I swear.

So I ran a mission to record where the roads and rails floated.  They didn't. :scratch_one-s_head:

I ran other missions where they floated in the ME.  They didn't.

So I reopened them in the ME.  Now the roads and rails don't float.?  (Pennywise is pi$$ed, "They're ALL supposed to float down here!"))

I'm glad I no longer have the problem.  I wish I knew why I had it in the first place.  All it cost me was an hour of wasted time opening and closing the game and ME.

Now there's an area that could use some attention IMO, speeding up load times.  Especially on the big maps like Kuban and Rhineland.  I can only imagine what the Normandy map will be like.  Hit load, have lunch, do some laundry and just before dinner the mission will be loaded.  ?

Thanks for the suggestions and the link RedKestrel.  :good:

I found the culprit.

The Moscow Free Flight Mod.  ?

I have kept this mod installed ever since it came out as it lets you fly over the "Forbidden Zone".  With it installed a lot of buildings and placed objects along with all roads and rails now float.  Objects you placed can be grounded but those that come with the map would have to be deleted and replaced by hand.  Even with that I was unable to lower the roads and rails as described by Dutch2 earlier.

That ruins a couple of my missions where you start at the airfield closest to Moscow.  With the mod disabled the top part of the screen fills with the "Leaving Combat Area!  Turn Around".  Very annoying.

Well the Dev's never intended us to fly over Moscow anyway and now they have found a way to punish those of us who use the Free Flight Mod to get around it. ?

It does beg the question though, if no missions took place over Moscow during the time frame they made for the map (something I read several places as not exactly correct), then why did they even put it on the map?  It takes ae whole Eastern section of the map away from the player and is a waste of resources as I see it.

Oh well.  Shelved yet another good eye candy mod. ?

My personal opinion here is that initially Moscow was intended to be part of the game. But when they realised the amount of the work needed to have something up to the standard we are used to, that is a  reproduction with a good level of detail of the city and its environment (rivers, road, railways, stations, airfields and airports etc.) replicate palaces and historical buildings etc. they finally decided to stop and just make the region not flyable. It is always a matter of time and money.

Maybe one day there will be an extension of BOM with the city of Moscow, but I would not count on that.

I went to the Free Flight Mod thread  and discovered there is a fix so now I have it back and nothing on the "allowed" area floats, much to Pennywise's dismay although inside the "Forbidden Zone" they still  float a little.
