misanthrope66 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 (edited) il-2 sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad It is stated that the game size is 37 GB, while on my system it is 51.4 GB. Am I the only one or is this normal ? When using the launcher it now says I'm not even updated past 10005 and must download another 20 something GB. I re-installed Windows 10 recently before this although I saved the game folder on another drive beforehand. The game was updated to the latest version before the Re-installation of Windows 10 and ran fine. The size is just throwing me off a bit, and why would I need to update again for updates which were already there ? I'm downloading at 6 Mbps with no other options in my area. AndyJWest Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 If you have a lot of saved tracks, they can take up a fair bit of room. Check the data/tracks folder, and delete anything you don't want (tracks often won't work after an update anyway). As for why the updater is reinstalling stuff you should already have, I don't know, but I'd guess that moving it caused some sort of issue, though this doesn't normally cause problems. 1
Algy-Lacey Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 You're not the only one. Although I'm not sure what is going on with your updated game needing updates via the launcher. There was a new update 4.503 which came out on monday and each update tends to be about 15 to 20 Gb. You might have an issue with your game not deleting the update files after they have been installed. Also saved flight tracks and custom skins eat up a lot of space, so if you have lots of those it could easily account for the 14.4 Gb difference. I hope that you get to the bottom of it. Algy-Lacey
CanadaOne Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I have 51GB but nothing much saved. A few mods though.

Field-Ops Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 The listed game size may or may not be updated on all their pages as they roll out updates. 37 GB sounds like what my game size was a year or so ago. Now allow me to puff out my chest and gloat my 94.4 GB size game file I got just about all the custom campaigns and single mission packs you can get and tons of 4k skins
Zeev Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Install Ridnacs Scan folder, this way you can see what are the largest folders and maybe post a screenshot.
misanthrope66 Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Hello, Thanks all for the help. I ended up redownloading the complete client I believe because the download size was 24.49 GB. Now the size of the game folder is 64.8 GB. The "Tracks" folder within is empty. During the download the folder reached the size of 110 GB which was worrying me somewhat. I took a screenshot with Ridnacs (Zeev's suggestion above) and have attached it... Hopefully correctly, as I'm not accustomed to taking screenshots. Anyhow, since it looks as if I have no saves of any kind now and only started the game to make sure it was installed, is there anything which can be deleted from the folder in order to save a little space that will not mess anything up ? I see no double-files of any kind. Possibly it is like Field-Ops said and the actual game size has not been updated for a few years. I can live with that. I just don't want to waste space with unneeded files. Thanks again. This is one of the most non-toxic forums I have seen in many years (and I'm OLD) and it is quite refreshing. 1
Blutaar Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Try to delete the folder with the date inside the /updates folder. You can also delete the hole /updates folder but if you launch your game via the launcher, you will have to wait a few minutes before the game starts at the first launch after deleting the hole folder.
BlitzPig_EL Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 (edited) Meh, my install is 99gigs. Lots of skins does it. I have no saved tracks either. Edited November 19, 2020 by BlitzPig_EL
J2_Bidu Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 If you're worried about soace used in a specific drive, rather than total space, it's rather easy to put part of the files in another - maybe cheaper - drive, like tracks and skins folders, and cheat Windows into thinking they're at the original location.
XQ_Lothar29 Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Look at my installation, 101Gb. This in my case is because any Historical Skin I see, I download it. I also have screenshots and some track.
PatrickAWlson Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 In the end we want nice things like 4K skins, new maps, high fidelity 3d models, etc. The latest games that I have downloaded often nudge or exceed 100 GB. I do not find IL2 GB to be unusual given that it currently supports 5 battles for WWII aircraft alone, in addition to FC and TC. One complaint that might be valid is the fact that everybody has everything, regardless of their purchases. That means that FC, TC, every plane and every map is on your drive whether you can use them or not. However, every plane and every tank is usable as an enemy even if you cannot control it. Every map is usable in MP even if you cannot use it in SP. So even that complaint falls by the wayside (do you really want just what you bought without the ability to fight the other planes?). So yeah, nothing really unusual here IMHO.
ShamrockOneFive Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Only 37GB? ? With game files plus screenshots plus track files I'm at 93.5 GB and that's with regular clearing out of all the stuff I accumulate. Still not close to some of the most modern titles that are pushing 200 GB.
40plus Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 I have an as close to vanilla as you can get installation (Steam) with no mods, skins, tracks, screenshots at all, no update folder, just a half dozen custom missions....41.5GB.

FlyingH Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 WHere would I be with 237 GB? (Maybe because I´ve collected skins like a vacumclener)! 1

It seems that we are having different experiences, because the last 2 times I have had to update... the downloaded data in the launcher was somewhere in the region of 15 Gb. I wonder why we have different download sizes? (That doesn't mean that the Game's size increases by 15 Gb, just the downloaded files)

If I had to download 20GB with every update, I'd never play this game. The first time I installed it took over 10 hours of downloading (back when it was 25-30GB approx.).

That could account for it. The last patch was under 1GB if I'm remembering right.
BladeMeister Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Skins and Mods. I am at 137GB and am putting my GBS on a diet. I have virtually no tracks or pictures. S!Blade<><
