Rudo Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 I've been playing this game on and off for a year now and have ironed out a lot of the problems that plagued me. Now I have it running very well except for the problem of "That Sinking Feeling" while flying almost any plane. The planes always feel way too heavy (like i have a full bomb load and full fuel and still too heavy) and are hard to keep in level flight, they always wants to descend. I have mapped the elevator controls and they are working fine, i have the pitch controls mapped to a rotary dial on my X52 and I can see its response work in the game both positive and negative. But they don't seem to do much, i'm always having to fight the joystick and pull back on the stick to keep from descending. I have a MSFF2 with FF turned on to 90% and Shaking to 20%. With a Saitek X52 I also play IL-2 1946 BAT with this same setup and have no problems with elevator or pitch control on the planes, they fly fine for me in that game. I have bought many of the Scripted Campaigns for GB and am anxious to play them, but this plane control problem really bothers me and reduces my enjoyment of the sim unless i can find a solution to this plane control problem. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a possible solution?

This is controlled via trim, I would recommend setting your elevator trim controls to two buttons rather than any sort of axis as it will allow you to test out how it works. With the aircraft adequately trimmed you should be able to fly hands off (or close to it!) It is worth noting that some aircraft have a different trim system (a stabilizer), you can bind this to the same controls as your regular trim. I apologize if I'm going over something you already know, you do mention elevator/pitch as two separate controls (elevator controls pitch, they're interchangeable) which makes me suspect you are already dealing with trim. Rudo Posted November 17, 2020 Author Posted November 17, 2020 (edited) Thanks for the help peregrine7. I binded the stabilizer and elevator trim to my X52 rotary and also cleared a lot of orange conflicts i saw in the key mapping settings now it seems to work better. My p38L was flying well and responding to inputs. Later I will try it with the IL2s which always flew heavy and see it it helps there as well. Your suggestions made me take a closer look at my settings and now im refining them. thanks. Edited November 18, 2020 by Rudo rambling
kestrel79 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Are you flying with full fuel? On a lot of these planes loaded with bombs and rockets, and full fuel they will feel very heavy and sluggish...and barely get off the ground if it's a bomber.
Rudo Posted November 20, 2020 Author Posted November 20, 2020 well i did check out the planes i've been flying and a lot of them were being tested in quick missions and i found that most had 100% fuel load as the default. so that does make a big difference on their flight models, i will now check all fuel loads before a mission begins. so thanks to kestrel79 for the tip. now im having some fun.
