New to the game - is there a manual?

I've found Requiem's tutorials, very helpful, but is there a manual somewhere?

Maybe when the game is released there'll be one. I've not come across one yet - maybe we're sort of being used as guinea pigs to write one!

Not yet, and don't count on there being one in time for release. The one for Rise Of Flight came out only several years after the game launched.

Unlike some other sim developers, the BoS team doesn't consider it a top priority to make a manual before the sim is done ;)

Actually, that's not the case. The manual I wrote for ROF replaced the original manual that shipped with the game, which AFAIK shipped with the game when it was first launched.

Could it be, that I completely forgot about that manual?

Well, it has been 5 years.

Finkerin:  don't worry mate, you didn't forget much!  Lukes' manual was about 1000% better than the original.

IB!! Good to see you here man!

Could you print bigger and use contrasting colors for this next manual so it can be read this time? What a useless waste of trees that RoF manual was.

Requiem's videos and the cockpit images in this thread make a fine temporary aircraft manual for now: Cockpit At-A-Glance Reference Cards

It is a challenge balancing what looks good on screen what also prints out nicely. I often find I need to brighten images before printing them.

We'll write a manual once the product's final features and systems is determined. This is still Early Access. Normally you wouldn't even be playing the game.

I misread the statement about the manual. My mistake.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that when he said "Unlike some other sim developers, the BoS team doesn't consider it a top priority to make a manual before the sim is done", it's meant as a good thing. Meaning, the priorities are toward the functionalities and less toward the optional fluff. In my opinion, that's a good thing to skip the manual in favor of more important things... even if it may not be factual.

now that makes more sense .... how could you get your response from what he said....

You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I meant, fortunately Jason caught my meaning as well :)

Even if you don't need a manual to play the game, it would be useful for things like engine management guidelines, for those who don't want to dig through the forums to find out why their plane keeps emiting smoke after 5 minutes!

yes, exactly why I asked. Some sort of resource like a wiki or something comes to mind.

To chip in here, the ROF manual as done by Luke et al is a cracker. You can soon tell that it was written by people who love their subject. Kudos ~

I haven't read your manual, but I've heard nothing but good stuff about it :salute:

It is superb, I have both it and the original, no comparison between the two.

I'd be happy just to have a printable list of all "Actions" and their default "Key Sequence."    Anything like it posted?

I always hoped for a realistic sim.  Looks like BOS is definitely going to be the one.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Don !  The spreadsheet is exactly what I was looking for - now I just need to memorize all of those key sequences. ;)

You are most welcome, have fun!!

Reading manual before taking plane to ride is pretty important but maybe some people prefer wrecking them first. ;)
