panmarek Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Besides instability (often crashes in loading even quick missions) I have serious trouble starting campaign. Plane is ready in row of others, these inf ront of me (2) take-off, but my Hurricane does not move at all. Planes behind me so not go as well. Propeller is rotating, RPMs react to my throttle, but no move at all. Tryied to play with breaks (suspected that some silly guy set them), but no help. Please advice. I have flown IL2 in past (from CD) and I have never encountered such problems. Wanted to enjoy BoB, but not very happy so far.. regards Marek
Sokol1 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) Depends on mission can be: - Wheel chocks are applied (if mission in mission code was set scramble). - Wheel brakes are on (Ok, none of the planes in game have functional park brakes, just pretend that they are engaged). ? - You forget to set "Propellor Pitch" in fine. So, set propeller pitch in fine, tap wheel brakes button/key once - this release the (virtual/ghost) "park brakes", and remove wheel chocks. Once you clear the runway the other AI planes behind you will take-off. Edited November 16, 2020 by Sokol1
panmarek Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Thanks for advice Sokol. I play with simplified engine control so is the Prop Pitch setting necessary? I have tryied to set keys for Prop pitch increase and decrease, but it did not react when tested on quick mission. Second thing is about "pushing brake key", which I have been doing couple times with no success. This time I was not able even to start campaign (crashed many times). I have read that I should disable Steam overlay. But I do not have any clue how to do it. Can you help please?
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Here you go re Steam Overlay: https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-disable-steam-overlay?r=DE&IR=T Make sure that Steam is open and that you're logged in. 1. In the top-right corner of the screen, click "Steam." Once the drop-down menu appears, select "Settings" 2. Once the Settings page opens, click on the "In-Game" tab in the left sidebar. 3. Uncheck the box that reads "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game." 4. Click "OK" to confirm the changes. Crashes can be related to a lot of things. On my system I solved it with (besides disabling any overlay, including Geforce Experience) setting compatibility mode of the Launcher64.exe (game executable) to Windows 7. Here’s how to do that: go to your Steamapps folder (iirc usually under C:/Program Files/Steam/Common/Steamapps) and locate the Cliffs of Dover folder. Open it and you will see the Launcher64.exe. Right click it, choose properties. Under the Compatibility tab, choose Run in Compatibility mode and select Windows7. With easy engine management I’d say your rpms should be set automatically when you mode the throttle. The reason you can’t move would be the other two Sokol mentioned.
panmarek Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 JG52, thanks. Overlay successfully disabled. Crashing cured setting Launcher64.exe with option run as admin, compatibility I let on Windows8. So finally it started campaign again, but I am in same soup as before. It starts with the message that breaks 1 , then I press my joy button assigned to them and it prompts brakes 100%, 50% and finally when released 0%, but no move at all. Buttons I assigned to prop pitch did not function, but checking with mouse over control in cockpit it shows prop setting at #1 (10% ?) In a single mission (starting in air already) I am able to land and take-off again without problem. Only managing flaps and gear. Enginewise just throttle adjusting.. ?? Marek
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 (edited) Glad it worked out with the crashes. So, first mission of the Cliffs of Dover campaign, you are sitting in a Hurricane with an incoming raid. Your plane has chocks in, that’s why it won’t move. Go to option, controls, aircraft dropdown. Then scroll all the way to the bottom, then scroll up a bit to about 9/10. You will see “Signal Ground Crew to Insert or Remove Chocks”. Bind something to that (alt+c for example). Go back to your cockpit and hit the key you’ve configured. Your plane will now move. By the way, I see you have your messages on screen. As soon as you spawn in you should see the message Chocks in flash for a couple of seconds. When you hit the key mentioned above, it will read chocks out. Edited November 17, 2020 by 9./JG52_J-HAT
panmarek Posted November 17, 2020 Author Posted November 17, 2020 Great tip JG52, many thanks. Why on earth there is no lesson about it in game .
Sokol1 Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Quote Why on earth there is no lesson about it in game . Well, are the "Training" module... but the AI instructor crash the Tiger Moth in 2nd or 3rd mission... so the guy making the missions give up in 5th mission... assuming that the player's patience was already "trained" enough. "It's CloD" way. ? 2
