Hello all,

With all the new hardware that is coming out I am strugling to findout what would be a good upgrade path for me. Or should I skip it al together and save up for a new PC.

Right now I am running an Intel I7 6850K OC'ed to 4.3 Ghz, 16mb Ram, Nvidia GTX1070 and using an IndexVR. I am considering to upgrade my videocard in order to improve my flying experience. I have been reading a lot of hardware reviews but they all marry newer CPU's with videacard and my knowledge is not sufficient to read between the lines. I am considering upgrading to a 2080Super video card. My reasoning being that upgrading to a 3000-series is simply putting a Ferrari-engine in a Ford Fiësta so pointless. The Ti-cards are above my budget of € 800 à € 900,-.

So any advice appreciated. What would be a good card for my pc-build if any or should I hold out for a new PC for a few years?

Oh you're having an Index, well i'm waiting G2 and i'm in similar situation regarding pc.

I'm still waiting to see how new amd stuff going to run il2 VR even my wallet points to i7 10700k and rtx 3080.

2080s is going to bring performance imrovement but i'd rather wait price normalization of rtx 3080 which you can get for ~800$/€ and later you can upgrade your cpu/mobo.

In my opinion any RTX 20x is a bad choice, as there is no noticable price drop yet.

E.g. RTX 3070 costs less than a 2080 Super (even at the currently inflated prices) and has more performance.

Yep; I just built a new box and was using my old RX 580 as a place keeper for the price drops that were bound to happen once the 30x cards were released. A month later and I'm still waiting.

Yeah I am going to give my 3090 FTW3 Ultra about a month or so, then I am going to sell my trusty 2080 Ti FTW3 for hopefully still a decent price.

Will see.

You could also try to grab one of the new Radeon RX6800/6800XT coming this week.

They should be pretty similar in performance with 3070 and 3080.

Thanks for the input people.

Is that a Z170 motherboard?  If so get a 7700k and overclock it as much as you can.  You might need to update your bios to run it.  IL2 in VR gets pretty good at around 5.0ghz, it is a big improvement as the game has pretty weak optimization.  One of the new GPUs will really help.  The 3080 or 6800 AMDs are really nice but a 3070 is a good value when these all become more available.  It takes stout hardware to have good performance in VR.  I wouldn't buy one of the last gen cards brand new, not a great value.

No, my mobo is an Asus X99-sli.
