ShamrockOneFive Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Hey folks, The Hurricane Mark II Collector Plane release has been a particularly positive moment for the IL-2 series. For the last week I've been flying the Hurricane Mark II almost exclusively and it's a lot of fun. It's also a very flexible aircraft and it's helped divert some attention back to early war aircraft again as well. In short this has been a superb aircraft release for the series. My full review of the Hurricane Mark II is out now (spoiler: I think it's awesome!) along with 60 screenshots and a short video clip of the aircraft in action. https://stormbirds.blog/2020/11/11/review-of-the-il-2s-hurricane-mark-ii/ Giveaway time! This is such a great aircraft release that I wanted to do something special and so I decided to do a giveaway of the Hurricane and have bought two myself. A few more members of the community have contributed as well and I now have five (5!) aircraft to release. Two from a friend of both the IL-2 community and the work I do on Stormbirds and another from Requiem at the Air Combat Tutorial Library and RS Funkie throwing in together. The give away will happen on Requiem's Discord server and you can read the full instructions here: https://stormbirds.blog/2020/11/11/its-the-hurricane-mark-ii-giveaway/ 17 3 13

TWC_Ace Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I will give you an unbiased review. I bought it since I knew it would be superb. It turns like mad, climbs very good, can go beyond 450 kmh with engione mod and hispanos are devastating Also its DM is the toughest in the game. Oh yeah...."it has" a fire extinguisher so no worries with fires. 2
CanadaOne Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Nice to have a British classic at a BoX level of quality.
Chief_Mouser Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Nice gesture Shamrock etc. The more people that fly the Hurri the better - she's a beauty. Cheers. 1 1
RedKestrel Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 The Hurricane has been one of my favourite fighters since my first sim way back with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. At the time I liked it better than the Spitfire because it had more ammo (which just shows that my gunnery really hasn't improved in <redacted> years). Then I really just found the whole workhorse aesthetic to be more my style than the more sophisticated fighters. Between that and the Razorback P-47 it's clear where my proclivities go. The plane has got everything I wanted - lots of mods making it relevant over a large time scale, steady as a rock, and great in a knife fight. I've flown it mostly in SP and on Berloga (where it is an absolute blast, even if you only live for about 2 minutes at a time). I really think they've done a stellar job on the modeling. 1
56RAF_Roblex Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Back in Cliffs Of Dover we flew on a server which was designed for squadrons and we were assigned our own home field and had weekly deliveries of new hurricanes and spits in about 2 to 1 ratio to replace losses. We were not the only squadron who arranged to deliver our Spit IIas to other squadrons in return for their hurricanes. It was fantastic for knocking down the LW bombers and quite happy to fight the escorts at 20K. Take the fight up over 30,000ft to meet any high escorts and the 109s found themselves struggling to turn while the hurricanes ran rings around them. The only downside to it was that co-alt the Ju88s were uncatchable and it could not run away from 109s down low but this was balanced by the fact that you did not need to run away as a 109 that was not able to dive was easy pickings for a hurricane at wave tops. Being able to climb well is no help when the hurri can kill you before you get out of range. 3

The Storm of War server was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had in an online video game, it would take a mighty effort to best it. 1

TWC_Ace Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Its the best bang for back plane. I mean for 15 bucks you can take crazy amount of damage, ur speed isnt greatest but its okish, your guns are super powerful and you climb more than ok. Also if you caught fire dont worry you will be ok. haha

NO.20_Krispy_Duck Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I'm enjoying it as well. It's slow but it turns well and is just a pleasant aircraft to fly. Ground handling is straightforward and it has robust, wide landing gear. It also has numerous armament options. It's just a pleasant, fun plane overall, with the speed being the main handicap.
