jollyjack Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 Just curious: Now that the Hurricane is out, which British fighter is your favorite? On of the Spits, clipped or not, a tempest or the new kid on the block. And for ground targets which weapon set?
=621=Samikatz Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 It'll be the Mosquito when it comes out, and before that the XIVc 4
Bremspropeller Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 Right now it's the Tempest, but I think I'll seriously bump my mosqui toe some time in the tuture.
Fritz_X Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 (edited) Currently the Spitfire Mk.IX with 150 oct. fuel and elliptic wingtips (I really don't like the clipped wings, they just take away that classic Spitfire look). Could be eventually replaced by the Mk.XIV... I have to admit that all of the British planes have a very pleasant ring to them. Their designs and flight characteristics (though being quirky at times) are quite amazing. Edited November 9, 2020 by Fritz_X
jollyjack Posted November 9, 2020 Author Posted November 9, 2020 Y' all got me curious about the Mosquito now. Always thought they only had midgets in the UK, as i found out camping in my 20-ies in the Highlands while smoking cigars was plain survival. After 16.00 PM, but also during the night.
Diggun Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 (edited) This is like when someone asks you to chose your favourite book. They're all classics, in their own way. I'm enjoying the versatility of the Hurricane, and, early war, she'll provide any cocky opposition with the odd nasty surprise. The Tempest is the Hurricane's 'roided up older brother. Can't wait for the Typhoon as the ugly middle child. The Vb is a delicate, aristocratic, lady, with a core of steel - think Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey. All doilies and crinoline until she mercilessly takes you down. If I could only have one though, I'd probably go for the... Clipped wing LF IXe. The most beautiful of the Spitfires (yes it is, don't @me). Perfect balance of speed and maneuverability, effective armament for both a2a and a2g (in the same mission). My absolute favourite to take to a target and run wild weasel and clean up the AAA before the bomber boys arrive. The clipped wings give the impression of the Spit having rolled it's sleeves up, and ready to get down to business. She 'floats' less than the Vb, and, apart from the tricky landing behaviors (shurely graceful and entirely intentional pirouettes - ed), just goes where I want her to, when I want her to. I'm perfectly happy to take on any of the late war Lufties in her (I've killed more 262's in a IX than anything else) - at equal energy state at least - with the standard fuel. You can keep the 150 octane for them as has need of it Edited November 9, 2020 by Diggun 3

SYN_Ricky Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Right now the Tempest for me, it has the power and speed to make up for my mistakes most of the times. Can't wait for the Mossie though.

I'm actually so hyped up about the oncoming RAF aircraft, I accidentally bought myself an Irvin jacket. And it doesn't end there: The Mustang III is basically being shipped under the radar, too. Hopefully with the 25lbs boost mod. 2
356thFS_Melonfish Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Depends on what you're doing, If you need something grilling hot and fast it's the Tempest, if you need a sunday roast (low and slow) the hurricane is your plane. I really can't wait for the Mossie, i do hope we see more multi-engined british planes in future too. 1
NO.20_Krispy_Duck Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 (edited) For British planes - Spit V with a mirror and the early war British camouflage. It's such a nimble, smooth-handling plane. Edited November 10, 2020 by NO.20_Krispy_Duck 1
Retrofly Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 It is and always will be the Hurricane. Some people say she looks ugly but I honestly don't see it, she looks beautiful. Here's to the underdog!
Art-J Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 Mark XIV Spit amongst singles (but only the high back one), Beaufighter amongst twins. Will have to wait a while for the former over here, but having a blast with the latter in CloD Tobruk.
ShamrockOneFive Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 The Tempest Mark V is my absolute favourite but I'm a sucker for any British aircraft. With the Spitfire XIV, Typhoon, and Mosquito all on the way... there's much to celebrate! 2
