Is everything all right with the Soviet Yak-7di fighter? according to subjective feelings in air battles, it is more dynamic than the Yak-1bis. Decided to check. I took the map of Velikiye Luki. Loaded the fighters with 50% fuel (200 l). Height 1000 m. Yak-7b radiator 50%, Yak-1bis 40%. Started measuring with a stopwatch at the altitude indicated above at a speed of 300 km/h. The upper limit is 500 km/h. I did it for the first tests: Yak-7b 1 ' 14 "18"' ; Yak-1bis 1 ' 48 "31'". I got it for the second test: Yak-1B 1'42" 73 Yak-7b 1 '19"54 They have the same engines-M-105PF, the weight of the "seven" 3002 kg (when fully refueled), the weight of the "one" 2887 kg (when fully refueled). The Yak-7b is more dynamic. their engines are the same. is he all right? the best dynamics is explained by the presence of gargrot? but on the other hand, the Yak-7b midsection is wider - it also has a water radiator under the center section / cabin. doesn't this affect the dynamics? and the Yak-1B has a radiator behind the cabin.
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 (edited) Maybe it is lost in Translation, what exactly did you do? I tried with 200l, Autumn 300km/h to 450km/h, 2550RPM and Full Throttle, Water Shutters and Oil at 50%, Mixture 85%. Two Runs each at 500m. Yak-7b: 32,63; 32,77 Seconds Yak-1b: 31,27; 31,30 Seconds Yak-1b has better Acceleration. Because of the Bubble Top it doesn't have the Drag Advantage over the Yak-7b (Bubble Tops have more Drag) but the low Speed Acceleration is better due to lower Weight.
