Thrustmaster Warthog Profiles for Current WW2 AC

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey folks:

I have been working on this for a few months, testing, editing, and testing once again, finally got it sort of ready to go.  Read the Intro first, I know its a bit long, but gives you an idea of what is included here.  Essentially, I have taken a basic TARGET profile (template), and modified it for each WW2 aircraft currently in the sim as of 4.501.  What you get for each aircraft is a pdf kneeboard of sorts with all of the key bindings listed for that aircraft in a graphical manner, a corresponding fcf file (the file created by TARGET to load onto your joystick), and a spreadsheet with several different  tabs for default key bindings, my modified key bindings, what keys are in use (and more importantly which ones are not), aircraft specific controls and bindings needed, plane specific info including landing and take-off data, and a unit conversion sheet.  Also included is a pdf of all commands and key bindings NOT otherwise mapped, including flight lead commands, gunner commands, generic aircraft checklists, individual engine controls, camera view commands, and SRS radio key bindings.  This is a system of sorts, hopefully someone will benefit from these.  Just trying to make it a bit easier for folks who may be put off by the dizzying array of options available.

Hit me up if there are any questions.  I have to post these in 2 posts, the pdf files took up a lot of space...

How come no one is responding to your post?  I've been looking for something like this for months and months and months.  Started with Sublogic's Jet.  Have had nearly every exotic controller since including original VR Forte VFX1 (think it is in the crawlspace somewhere).  Lots of games and hardware in between.  But never any good, never enough time.  Twins.  Thank you for investing the time and your knowledge.  Your work brings logic and consistency to the relationship between the game and the interface.  It will still take an investment in time, but I've gone through your remarks, and it makes total sense.  Looking forward to the investment instead of the frustration.

Paul

PS - not surprised your Canadian.

Thanks eh! ;)

No idea why very few folks have responded, but I actually had a good time figuring out all this stuff, put my training to good use now I'm retired.  So I'm not too fussed.

If you have any questions or queries let me know :)

Most likely because most folks have their profiles built already. I quit using a profile choosing instead to map directly in game.  Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the time, work and effort that you've put into this project, looks very detailed and I'm sure there will be folks using/adapting what you've shared.

I fired the quality control guy...

Couple of errors  in the one or two fcf files, but added LED functions, updated checklist.

Enjoy!

Just wanted to say thanks for this - i've always found the fact that we can't assign in-game modifiers in IL-2 a source of frustration - they really need to look at how it's done in DCS. That aside, your profiles have given me a good starting place to finally get to grips with TARGET.

I spent most of yesterday and today flying new AC with these profiles... and finding inevitable bugs with some of them.  Going to post another full update in a day or so

I JUST finished a major update, haven't posted it yet, just need to edit the fcf files, and correct the pdfs.  I added flares, refuel/rearm, and moved some of the controls like pitch hi/low to better controls.  Should be ready in a day or so, maybe later on tonight.

Couldn't figure out how to update OP with new version, so posted here instead.  2 Files, Darkdiz1.zip and Darkdiz2.zip.

Darkdiz1.zip

Darkdiz2.zip

Several functions moved for efficiency and realism (prop hi/low pitch for example), added flares and refuel/rearm maps.  Added SRS maps and config file, my snapviews, Thrustmaster default BOS keymaps ttm and Darkdiz BOS ttm files, and my current.map file (makes it easier to update the necessary key bindings instead of editing them individually.

Enjoy, as always, feedback is welcome :)

Curious, though after a long battle with target i flunked it and program the controller stuff direct in the game; To be honest i'm used to that now, and it never lets me down LoL

Posted (edited)

When my Cougar went TU, I had a fairly complicated setup for AH2.  Tried as hard as I could to work it in TARGET, but Foxy was better FOR THE COUGAR.  I found that working with TARGET for the Warthog gives me much more control, layers, and shifted keys, and once I got it figured out, works quite well for what I want it to do.

If you have any questions, just message me directly

I have a question. Can we use a hybrid? As in, can I map some in game and use your fcf files for other controls?

  • 3 weeks later...

Should not be an issue.  You will likely have to edit the fcf files, to put null commands for those buttons you choose to map in-game.  Not sure why you would do that though, the end result will be the same, but now you have 2 separate systems running the joystick.  Make sure you still run TARGET, as the game will see the Thrustmaster Combined joystick.  Then map whatever buttons in-game you want to that.

Hello Bro THX very m for hard spesial work...You have some like that for DCS?  ...Thanks again...

Nothing for DCS, FAR too many aircraft there.

After the next BOX update I'll be putting out an updated version, much simpler, more efficient, better maps, smaller download...

WWDarkdiz,

Thanks for your efforts, I was goin to PM but being new it said I was allowed to send 0 messages per day.

I downloaded the files from 12-5-2020 and will try them as soon as I get my new TM WH - throttle, my first one quit working after years of ED.

I was curious if you have updated any more since 12-5-20>

Anyway thanks for the work you have done and I will defiantly post a review.

Anyone know where to go to find a good squadron to join? I haven't flown a prop plane since HIS, but sure I will get back up to speed quickly...

I have updated somewhat, I'll include them here, the files are MUCH more efficient.

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks a lot for this new version and the additional items included in the pack.

Seems that you have by the way answered one of my question: how can we include for snapview with a a toggle mode on hat2 of the Warthog.

Seems you locked this with BSF/BSM buttons, correct ?

Posted

Sort of...

Hat 2 gives you the DXHATUP/DN/L/R command, which correspond to the snapviews you setup (or the ones I included, your choice)

The BSF/B merely zooms the view (mapped to the quickview function).  Although not listed on any of the pdfs, when you put the BS back to the middle, it resets your view.

One more thing, the files I uploaded here are for the warthog WITHOUT the Deltasim SC mod.  I use different mappings for the modded throttle (HIGHLY recommended!!!!!)

See the readme for more info.

Thanks a lot for this! Been looking for a good way to map my Warthog for IL-2 for quite a while now! :)

Btw, I haven't used Target at all so far as in DCS which is what I've mostly flown, I mapped all controls in the game and did some .lua file editing to get the functions I wanted.

If I load your fcf-files into Target will that mess up my mapping for DCS which was made in the game?

No it won't.  If you don't run TARGET then whatever you have setup in-game for DCS will remain.  However, none of the functions mapped in this system (IL2) will work (obviously).  If you run TARGET when playing IL2 and map everything as I have it setup (see the readme file), the TARGET script will run, and you will get the functions mapped in the fcf TARGET.

So for DCS, don't run TARGET unless you wan't more control over your DCS functions (another post, another time).  If you are happy with your DCS mapping, then leave them as is.  Remember, when you run a TARGET script, TARGET will combine the Warthog Throttle and Joystick into a COMBINED joystick, rendering your DCS mapping in game obsolete.  DCS will see the "Combined" joystick, not the Warthog Throttle and Joystick separately, but only while TARGET is running.  So just run TARGET when you want to fly IL2, not DCS.

For these scripts to work, you MUST run TARGET, the scripts are for IL2, not DCS (I MIGHT, much later on, make up something for DCS, but that is MANY empty rum bottles away yet).

Here are some TARGET profile layouts of my controllers for the one and only Profile I have for IL2GB, I use it for Allied and Axis aircraft and don't have to touch the keyboard at all while flying.  The one thing I always stress is start TARGET before you start your game or else you will get all kinds of extra controllers in your Input folder.  If you would like to try this profile send me a PM.

This is the lay out for my one and only TARGET Profile for IL2GB.  I don't have to touch the keyboard for anything while flying.  Using the Up/Middle/Down and In/Out functions of the software I can pretty much map 100% of the button presses I need.

If it works for you, fantastic, well done :)

The system I posted here does that (no kb presses required, except for functions that are rarely used), involves Teamspeak 3 functions, SRS functions, WITHOUT having to memorize the BSU/D/M switch, just the S3 in/out switch.

The bottom line is that if a particular set of mapping works for you, go with it.

I only have the one profile so I never have to leave the game, stop TARGET, change Profile, start TARGET, get back in the game and hope I have not been left too far behind by the group... and hope that everything works with this profile if I don't use it enough.  Same thing with DCS WWII birds, most of it is clickable so the plane specific functions I leave in the cockpit, but quick reaction functions I put on the TARGET profile for DCS, for the same reasons as above.  If I was to have a second profile for IL2GB it would be for Tanks...................  I don't much play TC or FC so no profiles.

Cheers

The latest one I posted (Apr 18, see above) is one profile for planes, 1 for tanks. So no need to alt-tab to get another profile unless you want to... ahem... drive a tank

Fellow IL2-ers:

The Apr 18 version of my Thrustmaster Warthog profiles, posted above, will be the final update for the stock-warthog throttle.  Since I have the Deltasim mod for the Slew Control Switch (middle finger on the left hand), I have no need to update this version any further.  IMHO, the Deltasim mod (https://deltasimelectronics.com/products/thumbstick-slew-sensor-adapter) is a game-changer, I HIGHLY recommend getting it.

If requested, I will share my modded fcf file(s) with anyone who asks, but be advised it is optimized for the modded throttle.  I will continue to update the modded version moving forward (I don't have time to keep both versions updated, and in reality, its not difficult to personalize the modded version to an un-modded version).

That being said, if someone discovers a bug in the un-modded files above, please let me know and I will try and address it.  As well, I will continue to keep the supplementary files updated (engine specs etc), so if you want them, just ask, I will send them to you.  I don't plan on specifically posting them here.

Cheers

Hey WWDarkdiz!

Was about to try out your fcf-files a few days ago and ran into a bit of a problem.

When I use "Run configuration" in Target the flightstick dies. No axis or buttons are responding. Throttle is still working normally.

Both stick and throttle have the latest firmware.

Only way to get the stick back is to reboot the PC.

Any ideas? ?

Posted

Hmmm, never seen that before.  What version of TARGET are you running?  I think the latest is .827

When you start target, before running the confguration (Planes), is the  joystick (I'm assuming its a warthog joy) visible in TARGET?

Make sure you assign the pitch and roll axis in target to the joy (edit the planes.fcf in TARGET, make sure the DX X and DX y axis are assigned to the joy).

Occasionally, I have the same issue after running TARGET, the joy dies, becomes unresponsive.  What I do to fix is stop the script, close TARGET, unplug the joy, count to 10, replug.

Then in Joystick control panel, see if the joy is working (select the joystick, properties, move the handle, you should see the center x move as you move the joy handle).

Restart TARGET, run the config file, it SHOULD work.

I have contacted Thrustmaster about this, I got the "we need the error to be repeatable" just monitor.

You can also re-install the drivers for the warthog, download them from the TM site, follow the instructions CLOSELY that come with the file.

One more thing to try, under computer management (right click the windows start button, select computer management, services and applications, services, scroll down to Thrustmaster FAST service, restart it.  That SOMETIMES works.

Hope this helps

At times there have been trouble with wins USB power managenment. Check that the automatic power management for all OSB ports are diabled.

Also make sure its USB 2 NOT 3, there is a power difference, TM was designed for USB 2

Why would the USB port output more power than the device is designed to draw? If that were the case, it seems like any USB 3.0 port would immediately destroy any USB 2.0 device that was plugged into it. Is there confirmation that this is an actual risk?

Ask Requiem ;)

He fried his throttle by plugging it into USB 3 vice 2 (saw that explanation on his discord).  I know USB is SUPPOSED to put out 5V up to 500ma, but apparently its NOT a good idea to put the TM stuff into USB 3 ports.  The device will draw what amperage it needs, AT the voltage listed (5v).  Maybe the data rate on the newer USB 3 ports (up to 10GB/s vice 480MB for USB 2) overwhelms the TM circuit, I'm really not sure, and am certainly no expert.  I just write the scripts for IL2 ;)

Check with TM though, they would know best as to what the best port for their stuff is.

This still doesn't make sense to me though. My understanding is that the old USB 2.0 connector pins on a USB 3.0 port are still present, in addition to the new pins. A USB 2 plug won't even contact the USB 3 connectors. I'm just trying to understand because I've used a USB 3 port on my Warthog because that's the easiest one to connect to on the front of my PC. Here are the motherboard header pins for USB 3.0 on the left and 2.0 on the right. From this page
