US103_Baer Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 (edited) Looking at plane-sets for potential time period-based maps using current planes in FC1. Here a few initial thoughts for 4 time periods. Early 1917 is dodgy, but from late-1917 a six month segmentation works fairly well regarding plane introduction dates, historical balance of power and gameplay. 1917 - early SE5a Bristol F2b early Camel (0) plus 3 unlocked for recon or other target achievement Albatros Pfalz (5) plus 5 more unlocked with recon or other target achievement Halb CL2 early 1917- late Se5a Bristol F2b early Spad XIII (5) plus 5 more unlocked with recon or other target achievement Camel (5) plus 5 more unlocked with recon or other target achievement Albatros Pfalz Dr1 Halb CL early 1918 - early Se5a Bristol F2b late and early Spad XIII (9) plus 5 more unlocked with recon or other target Camel (6) plus 5 more unlocked with recon or other target Dolphin Albatros Pfalz Dr1 D7 regular D7f (3) plus 5 more unlockable with recon or other target Halb CL late and early 1918 - late All planes unlimited Edited November 6, 2020 by US103_Baer 1 2
J2_Drookasi Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 For the 1917- early I would take out the Camels and the Pfalz, because of historical operational record and to have a clear Alb vs Se5 contest. 1
No56_Badger85 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 I would support such time-period based maps! I am biased, though, because I would prefer to fight Albatri and Pfalzs, in my SE5a, rather than DVIIFs ?

Then you have a 50/50 chance of getting home. Edited November 13, 2020 by NO.20_W_M_Thomson
NO.20_Krispy_Duck Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 (edited) I like time-period based maps, but you're better off doing it in Rise of Flight if you go back before fall 1917. I just don't think FC has sufficient resources yet to go back to early 1917 and make it interesting. Late 1917, maybe, but you're down to a very limited plane set beyond that. NO.20_W_M_Thomson Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Maybe if we had 1 hr. at the beginning of a map have earlier planes then just progress until the end of the map. Don't think a whole map with albs and camels would go over well. Be an awful lot of plane part scattered everywhere.
US103_Baer Posted November 14, 2020 Author Posted November 14, 2020 (edited) Yeah, early 1917 is probably a non-starter for regular weeknights. I think there was a BA or FiF using Se5/Bristol v Alb/CL2 but I doubt the casual crowd would like it. Late 17 and early 18 are important though, and very doable with current set. It's important because the balance of air power wasn't static. Gameplay can, and should, reflect that. The Spad IS the 1917 200hp version, no matter what it says on the box. Still, i've suggested limiting it in 1917. The Alb and Pfalz perform more like early ones and the Dr1 certainly isn't OP. The Camel runs more like a late engined model, hence the limits. Shorter sessions would be fine. 2 hrs perhaps, like Wargrounds. Edited December 2, 2020 by US103_Baer 1
