I have a unique situation and want to ask the help of these crazy pilots here. I have for free a nice workstation. I want to play 80% IL2 and Assetto corsa Competizione. I would also expect to play some Game pass games on the PC as well, like Destiny 2.  I want to play at high graphics specs 4k medium or 1440 maxed.  I have a dilemma.  Do I stay with the 7910 and use my budget to add a high end GPU OR Start a new AMD build but wont have enough budget to upgrade from my 1050Ti ( i know low end and not VR capable) until later down the road.  I 100% want to do VR at top performance (will go after the reverb G2 in the roadmap ) . So configs below for what i have and what I would build.

What I have

Dell Precision 7910

2 x Xeon E5-2687 3.10

128GB DDR4 ram EEC

(i have plenty of HDD and SDD)

(here I would add a 20 or 30 series GPU)

Build

B550

Ryzen 7 3700x

16/32 GB DDR4

(free 512 nvme)

power supply

case

fans

(use my old 1050ti till i can buy an upgrade)

Thank you for all your help.

At 4K or 1440, you will probably get better results if you upgrade your graphics card first because the 1050 Ti is inadequate at those resolutions.

For good VR performance, you'll need to build an entirely new system because the E5-2687 is quite limiting.

While you wait, pay attention to the new CPUs and GPUs reaching the market soon.

I use a high end gaming system for a workstation, (and games)  not the other way around for good reason.

If it were me I’d go for future proofing and build the AMD system.

I run a 1080 currently on my Ryzen 1700 system (in the middle of a new Zen 3 build) and this card does great at 4K medium-high settings. I’ll be replacing with a 6800xt.

Best to move forward if you can IMO

Thanks ! That's what I though too.  Xeon is just too slow.   To be clear  I am currently running on another system, i7 with the 1050Ti , so either of these options would be trying to upgrade.   Guess I'll go AMD build !

I suggest Ryzen 5600x instead Ryzen 7 3700x.
