I have been encountering a strange problem lately:

In the midst of a mission I suddenly have a Black Screen/Freeze(FPS Drop to 10fps)...and control of the mouse

cursor for Windows appears.

Flying/Engine Sounds are ok

However, if I hit >ESC< the sim/game then pops back to normal in game.

This would happen in the middle of a dogfight or just straight/level flight back to base.

What would account for this?

Any help/input?

Thank You.

Sounds like your game loses focus and some other application (for example, Epic store notification) can "steal" the focus and when you press ESC it closes and gets back to the previous focuses application -> the game.

ah!

That does sound like a correct description all right!

How would I be able to discern the guilty app and fix this issue?

Do control-alt-deleat open task manager

it will show you whats running

Like some one said above, task manager. But it will be hard to find the application.
If you cannot see any app when not in game, it might be as well a malware\virus.

I tried the above...however I couldn't get access to the Task Manager/Desktop...

It's like the flight portion of the game locks up the screen...I can still make selections(menu/maps/briefing etc)...

However the game is frozen in the flight screen so I have no recourse but to reset/restart.

Any other ideas??

This is all i can think of

Make sure all  drivers for graphics card are  up to date

Run the game with lower setting to see if the problem persists

Have a look in  settings - apps and features ( Windows 10) for any recently installed programs that you don't recognise (find out what they are before removing them)

Is your system running hot?

is your system over clocked?

Yes, it is, the game was out of focus.

Task Manager should pop up with cntl-alt-delete as is the task bar, where it's addressable if not, while the game runs in the background.

You could see what is staring up with msconfig.exe (via the startbutton). Do a Diagnostic startup to see if the problem goes away?

If you can remember what you installed latest ..... might be one of those many tools, programs or utilities that think they are more important than the rest ...

The free Malwarebytes used to be very good in the past for finding bad windows stuff, not so sure any more. Maybe Spybot S&D is better, i still use it.

Make sure all  drivers for graphics card are  up to date....They Are

Run the game with lower setting to see if the problem persists....Tried...still loses focus

Have a look in  settings - apps and features ( Windows 10) for any recently installed programs that you don't recognise (find out what they are before removing them)....i'll review this

Is your system running hot?...not at all

is your system over clocked?...nope

I think it might be a loss of focus problem...some pesky program is causing the system to stop what it's doing(the game/sim) and causes the flight screen to

freeze and I have control of the Windows 10 arrow/cursor instead.

I'll try with another app...maybe I can discover the offending program causing the problem.

Windows 10 has a 'gaming mode' you can engage so that it blocks notifications/interruptions from other programs. Might be worth a try, though some people it causes problems for.

You could also try running the game in windowed mode, that way if the game loses focus it should be a little easier to get it back.

Wow some solid advices there!

I'll give them a shot my next gaming session.

Just gotta find out what the poison pill app or program that's causing this problem.

The anti-virus could be doing it, would be my first guess.

I don't have/use Norton...Just the Vanilla Windows 10 Anti Virus stuff.

Salutations,

Have you ran any malware detection programs to rid your system of same? :salute:

I just replicated all the conditions with the exception that I turned off Full Screen Mode.

Was able to cause the unit to lose focus again...

When it did a small popup window appears with the notation "Object Undefined"...no title or anything.

So I clicked OK and was able to continue normally.

From the task bar it showed the cog of the Windows 10 'Settings'

So what would cause a small popup to say "Object Undefined" and cause the system to lose focus??

Are you running any mods? If so, deactivate them and check performance.

I THINK it has something to to do that i'm running missions created by PWCG...Java just had an update and I think the missions are

getting messed up as a result.

Long time since this was active, but I have same problem.

Yesterday middle MP dogfight mouse cursor popped on my screen. Lagging FPS, same issue as I would do alt+tab.

I am flying on main montior, secondary is for internet and ts etc. Tried to lock taskbar, didn't help, changed from windowed mode to full screen, didn't help.

Now I set my secondary montior to FullHD (was 4k) and will see if that still does that. Can't figure out which programm is doing that.

EDIT: None of of the other sims do that, (dcs or Clod torbuk), so must be engine issue.

EDIT2: Same thing in single player. Monitors at same resolution doesn't help.

EDIT3: Tried to turn off second monitor, still got same bug.
