Mastermariner Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) The question arises as China is forbidding its Government PCs to run on Win8 and a new national operating system is under development. Likewise a national OS was under development in Russia some years ago but I haven't heard anything about it since then. Things might speed up as the east aren't particularly happy whit the latest development. So the Q is; will BoS run on any other OS? Master Edited May 21, 2014 by Mastermariner
TheBlackPenguin Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Right now, no. The good thing is that 777 are using their own game engine, so perhaps someday once the other OS becomes more popular they could in theory port it over. Perhaps by then audio and joystick support will have matured further (a lot may also depend on Steam Machines).
J2_Trupobaw Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 May depend on how badly BoS engine relies on .net framework; in worst cases they may have to rewrite parts normally handled by .net components, find another framework on other OS then rewrite game to work with it, or bit of both. Since .net is a virtual machine, quite possibly BoS is not written to be run by Windows using .net elements, but run by .net which is run by Windows, making two hard to separate.
1./JG42Nephris Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) Are Ipad/Mac Users not on 1C-777 target list? Just wondering, I would suspect most casual players within the app stores That would be a target group to orientate for. No buttons, a few gestures, easy Os aswell. A big yes for BoS for IOS & Android Edited May 21, 2014 by 1./JG42Nephris
Nonolem Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 RoF is working smoothly without any problem on Ubuntu with WINE, even if framework does not install properly (I think there is a minimal version included in WINE which is sufficient). My tests was with a Nvidia graphic card, but the ATI drivers have the reputaion to not be good under Linux. Don't know if it works with an ATI card. For BoS under Ubuntu, the launcher... just doesn't launch... I will try to copy/past the game folder on my ubuntu hard drive (I have a dual boot), and test it... when I have some time.
FlatSpinMan Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I'm playing it on an iMac (unfortunately) but admittedly it is running Windows 7.
MarcoRossolini Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I've heard of a few guys running RoF on their Macs...
