PatrickAWlson Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Your commanding officer, the guy giving the initial orders... we're talking PWCG algorithms here ... is not incredibly bright. He will give you climb, ingress and egress waypoints that are not ideally placed. His patrol path might be suboptimal. His payload selection might be less than ideal. Fortunately, he is aware of his deficiencies and doesn't really mind if you countermand his orders. Please feel free to change waypoints. I routinely reform my climb WPs to make them happen on the way to the target. I will often adjust egress WPs to get back over friendly territory ASAP. Sometimes I change patrol WPs to extend a patrol or make it shorter if I am asked to fly 300km with a plane that runs out of fuel after 200km. I routinely change payloads and modifications. Just because your commander said use bombs, if I want to add rockets I do so. Those four screens of briefing exist for a reason. Play around with the mission for five minutes before committing 45 to flying it. 6 1 2
Varibraun Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Good to know info. Also, speaking of not very bright, is there still a way to delete waypoints, I haven't been able to figure that out with the "new" screen?

Yogiflight Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 I usually change egress waypoints, when flying ground attack missions, depending on the base of my escort fighters. So I won't egress near the front line to fly 50km in 500m altitude with my escort fighters flying the same way as their base is behind mine. I then set the egress waypoint near my base.
vonGraf Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 (edited) I change the flightpath, waypoints, loadouts and add pilots/planes in almost every sortie but keep always the purpose of the mission in general. Not adding bombs to a high altitude fighter patrol or so. But if we have to use bombs in the 109, some got 250 kg and some 4 x 50 kg, for example.(Hope that makes sense for the AI). The egress point I try to set near an airfield short behind our frontline (if possible) meant for an early landing in case of malfunctions or other reasons. Edit: Don't know how to aim and find targets in the dark, especially in ground attacks, so I change the time in these missions until there's more light. But I would like to fly in the night as destroyer; maybe the taget zone should be more lighted (train yard) or in flames from an attack before. The small 'icons' above targets can fool you a lot at night too because they're visible through hills and woods and I had some crashs due to them. ? Edited November 1, 2020 by vonGraf
[808_BOB]_RlCK Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 I change flight path, alt, waypoints, payloads, etc... Honestly, I am doing more things than our commander, and I'm not even getting paid... God damn Air Force! Should've joined the Navy like my pa' told me to... 1

In order to make it more real world I'm going to have to start giving PWCG' imaginary general medals and raises while you do the work and take the risks. 1
hebog5 Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) Just a funny one here. Sorry if it is in the wrong place. Kuban. flying Russian,. Four planes to take off but leader turns round and goes head on into second plane. Last man refused to come with me so I very bravely went myself! I had downgraded myself from the lead that was allocated for me and wonder if this had something to do with it? Edited November 2, 2020 by hebog5
hebog5 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 It happen again! Aircraft turn about and bump into me. One passes on left then other turns into me. End of sortie! PWCGErrorLog.txt

hebog5 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 (edited) This might be it. Sorry, very inept at this kind of thing. Thank you for all the time you give. This should be one of the two mentioned. Other careers fine. Rwsia 1202011021711664 (2).zip Edited November 2, 2020 by hebog5
hebog5 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Just a little update so as not to waste your time. It happened yet again with lead plane spinning around so I deleted the campaign. Started another Russian Kuban one and everything went fine. Don't know if I managed to give you the zip of campaign you asked for. I am no good at these things, I still use an axe at work!

One thing you could have done is just transfer your pilot to a different unit (you still can since your campaign is in that zip). I have never heard of this behavior before but I guess it is possible if PWCG points the planes on one direction and the AI really wants to take off in the other for some reason.
hebog5 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Thank you so much for taking time to look after even individuals. It really is greatly appreciated. 1
