Microsoft Force feedback 2 jerking around

I have a problem with force feedback since the day that I hooked up my FFB2 stick to IL2. Often, but not always, the stick starts to shake heavily from the moment the flying session begins. This can be solved by bringing up the input menu and changing “some setting”, for example decreasing the shake or force feedback amount. From then on, the stick behaves normally until a next session is started.
It’s starting to get pretty annoying and I was wondering if someone else with FFB has noticed the same problem and has a solution.

I have the MS FFB2 connected to a Powered USB hub.

Ever since I've had it connected that way, the number FFB drop outs have de-creased significantly, (only every now and then the elevator forces disappear) and the sudden shake syndrome has not re-occurred at all.

BTW have you found any workaround for this other than exiting and restarting the game?

Yes, bring up the Input menu, switch off FFB, click Ok / Apply once, go back in again, switch it on.

Every now and then this can/might lead to a complete game crash... but not that often over here...

I do this too. Works also for the shaking behaviour.
Thanks for suggesting the powered USB hub, guys! I have one on order and will report back here as soon as I have tried it.
The disappearing elevator force is a bug it seems. Hope the devs can address this somehow.

I just installed a powered usb hub. Seems to have fixed the issue indeed. Thanks again, all.
