Problems opening game

Is anyone else having trouble getting the game to start?

I've tried everything I can think of... reboot, run as administrator.

It just won't open, can anyone help me

Just ran the game through the launcher, it opens for me.

To troubleshoot any computer issue, you have to provide some details.

1. What is the program behaviour?
2. What is the error message
3. What is the error number

 

Have you tried to

1. Check the logs
2. Check Event Viewer logs in your OS
3. Do you have enough hdd space?
4. When did the game ran fine last time?

 

From my issues experience, after some windows updates the game did not provide sound and did not start (it happened about a year ago).

The workaround was, as strange as it sounds, to rename the folder name of the game. Then it worked.

I'm getting some issues on startup occasionally as well.  Startup just hangs.  A reboot generally fixes the issue, but the freeze can manifest itself in several ways (like on mission launch, I get the techno icons on the right, sound, but the rest of the screen stays black.  ALT F4, reboot.

Do you mean when some sound effect starts and you hear it not in natural way? I started having this issue since last update.

Sound effects appear to be normal (explosions, engines etc), but all I get is a black screen with the blue technochat icons on the right, and the frame rate indication (60fps, best by far on this machine, but then again, all it is drawing is a black screen...).  It seems as though the graphic draw did not initialize or something like that.  Sound stops once the game pauses on mission start, keyboard appears to be locked out for the game, no mouse, even if I hit ctl/alt/del to try and bring up task manager (I can tab through the running apps, but can't get the mouse to appear).  Even if I manage to "End Task" with task manager, most of the time (not always), the game still appears on the screen, overlaying everything else.  Alt/tab will bring up running apps, I can select them, but they just minimize behind IL2 when I try and bring them up.  That might be a FUMS thing though.

Note, I am using FUMS to process manage to give top priority to IL2 (never had a problem before until recently), with Track IR and TARGET running in the background.

If you see the icons I do not believe it has something to do with graphic draw.

When did it start to happen?

Maybe some data files are corrupted? Have you tried to reinstall?

Make a game backup, then remove (or rename) the updates folder.

 

Remove or rename the mtreecache.eng and mtrecache.eng files in data sometimes fixes things too.

 

Both will be reinstalled on game boot.

Hmmm, lots of errors in the logs...

Maybe these would help?

One thing I noticed, last night after flying several missions (1.5hrs apx total duration), it did the black screen thing again.  I alt-f4'd, the game exited, but the sound stayed running on an endless loop (sound that runs when viewing the mission map prior to mission start.. distant explosions, aircraft engine, machine guns etc)

 

In reality its not a BIG deal, just annoying having to reboot the game.  I think what concerns me more is the many errors in the logs below.

 

Thanks Jollyjack for the tip, I couldn't seem to find the mtrecache.eng file (I found the mtreecache.eng ok).  Also when you say make a game backup, not sure which files, or is there a documented procedure for doing this?
