MarcoPegase44 Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Type of improvement: New Spitfire aircraft of a more common type for BON Explanation of proposals: The current Spitfire MkIX is Type IX with pointed wing tips, practically a MkXVI, which is well suited for late 1944 for BopB. On the other hand for BON a Mk IXb with standard wing tips would be much more compatible, pointed wings being very rare in the summer of 1944. The variation of a new MkIXb aircraft would allow the two Spitfire models to coexist in the ModCareer and would not require much work, the B wing being very close to that of the MkVb. In addition, with the BON card, it would be possible to create missions for the year 1943. 2
blockheadgreen_ Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 (edited) Just to add a few corrections, there is however no such Spitfire "IXb" variant. All Spit IXs either had C wings or E wings, and only E wing Spits had a suffix; the correct terms were IX and IXe respectively. What you're probably thinking of is "Mk IXB" which was a squadron-level designation in which their Merlin 66 engined Spit Mk IXs could be differentiated from those with Merlin 61 or 63 engines (or Mk IXA). These terms were superceded officially by the prefixes F, LF and HF denoting Merlins 61/63, 66 and 70 respectively. As for a C wing Mk IX with modifications for choosing between all three engines? I wholeheartedly agree! It'd be the appropriate variant for simulating Normandy and the preceding year. Other modifications could be either the round or pointed rudder, gunsight and mirror options, filtered/small air intakes, etc. Edited October 28, 2020 by Lythronax 3 2
