SYN_Vander Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 (edited) Ah yes! Very well organized and a lot of fun. The Zero was a great training aircraft ?. I'm still flying with a buddy that I met in class after all those years... Edited October 24, 2020 by SYN_Vander
DD_Crash Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 FunFlack Kimo and Painless fly with the DangerDogz. Quite a few Dogz have done the classes.
TRRA15 Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 Yes I attended. As was previously said, it was very well organized, fun and quite challenging as well. I gained a huge wealth of knowledge from them that would have taken much much longer for me to acquire...and perfect. Good to see others in it are still flying.
ACG_Bobo Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 I did it, it was a treat! You had great instructors for 3 hour classes. Lots of note taking then flying. I recall three levels of ground school/basic before you advanced to fighter or bomber school. Then there was about three basic and three advanced levels of your chosen field. And you could do specific aircraft training offline and get credit. Yep, it was awesome. I even still have a pic of the training field and all the course docs.
TRRA15 Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 (edited) That brings back memories K_Bobo. I recall 'The Triad' being a challenging hurdle to clear in order to graduate BFS. A route of flying between 3 airfields: taking off from Caen I believe, having to do a touch-and-go at another, then a successful landing at a third. All this in poor weather and using dead-reckoning navigation and VFR. I remember feeling almost drained ( but elated ) in accomplishing it. I remember the ground school and having to taxi about in windy conditions. Navigation training and the use of the beacons and repeater compass. All that stuff is as important, if not more, than just putting a plane in your sight and blasting away. The instructors were superb. I still have my printed out notes and maps and such, and still review them from time to time. What I really liked were when they had those sessions where they would profile a certain aircraft, hosted by one of the members, where we'd learn the ins and outs, the best way to fly and fight effectively in it, followed by some co-op missions. I learned a lot, but it was fun fun fun. What a blast. Edited October 25, 2020 by TRRA15 1
ACG_Bobo Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 I've been trying to introduce the 'Triad' to my squads training night. It's a great skill to have. All the stuff I learned at JO helped me in all my flight-sims and brought a much deeper enjoyment whenever I fly any of them.
KG100_Brannon Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 I remember as I attended a training class back then. Learned a lot and had fun too. All apart of this virtual journey.
kestrel79 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 I totally took some classes with these guys in IL2 46. Brings back memories. I remember it being pretty hardcore, and everyone was very polite calling you Sir. Pretty intimidating stuff for me in my early 20's but I learned a lot!

ACG_Bobo Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Rolf!! JO was great. I wonder where are the instructors. They put a lot of time into getting that program together and it was fantastic. I still have all the notes I took during the lectures. I still chat with Otto from time to time, he's flying with his Danish buddies!
DD_Crash Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Painless and FunFlak still fly with the DangerDogz

Everyone I ever talked to about the program always enjoyed the heck out of it. One of the funniest stories I heard about the training classes was when you were tasked with created a mission for the class to fly. His was a Pearl Harbor session and my friend claims he put a submerged sub in the mission in the Harbor with a delay and when it started firing torpedoes all heck broke loose while everyone tried to figure out what was happening. I always thought I would get around to it and then the site had to up and go offline almost a decade ago... Joint_ops @ the Internet Archive (October 09, 2014) Here is the video from the original post @VA_NAVY. Joint Ops Virtual Combat School https://youtu.be/AKqbPQbSOFQ?si=GQB8KhnxpUey91nd One of the saddest things to me is that all the training material was lost when the site went down. Wheels
