Hi all. Please, what is the correct term to name this opening in the right side panel of a 109?

EDIT : I forgot to mention that I already know that the above shown opening is destined to shoot flares through it !! LOL!!

I don't know what the technical term for it is, but it's a port/tube for the flare gun

Sorry, I was joking.  That is literally flare pistol hole in German.

In English call it what you will.  There probably is no official term.  I would go with Flare Pistol Port myself.

No worries, you are welcome.

You just dropped that term... I googled it... and I got at least the following link, which mentions the "flare pistol port":

https://www.model-monkey.com/product-page/1-18-flare-pistol-port-for-p-51-mustangs

Thus, I'll stick to the use of that term. Thank you!

Sorry mate, I didn't notice your response. Yep, I found Google results with your suggestion as well. I'll indistinctly use both of them.

Thank you fellows.

Could the pilot close the flare tubes in real life? Or stick a plug it in when not in use? Seems it would be cold having that open all the time.

Apparently there was a screw cap inside the cockpit of the P-51s :

But not for the German pilots:

I have a hard time imagining that that tube was left open.  From the position it looks like it would constantly funnel a concentrated blast of cold air into the pilot's face.

Sounds logical... So maybe this German tube was filled with something...

Leuchtpistolenloch

Only correcting the spelling. Not sure if that's the authentic name for it.

I'm not sure what the other English speaking people call it, but in Canada we call it "your Mom".
