[TGS]BoS_dserver Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 (edited) Thanks for your patience with a new editor. I'm starting a new mission on Stalingrad Terrain. When I import the All Airfields template the map become cluttered with town names some match some don't and they overwrite each other. Sketch Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 (edited) Stalingrad was one of their first maps (not the first mind you, but one of the first), and they were learning how to make templates for us designers back then. Just go in to each city group and remove all the icons. Then resave the template (as a different name so you still have the master copy from the devs), so you don't have to do it again. STEPS: Click this guy ^^ Deselect all of the objects except translators ^^ (you'll want to turn all back on later) Select all the icon MCUS and then press delete to remove them from the map. Turn everything back on again ^^^ Ya! No more icons! BTW, the Object Filter is a HUGE lifesaver. Use it wisely. Edited October 22, 2020 by Sketch 3
[TGS]BoS_dserver Posted October 22, 2020 Author Posted October 22, 2020 Thank you. I will give that a go. Much appreciated.
[TGS]BoS_dserver Posted October 22, 2020 Author Posted October 22, 2020 Thanks Sketch. Perfect cookbook instructions. This removed the bold black text and left all the structures populating the airfields. Thank you very much for your time and expertise. It is much appreciated. David ARMAstrong. 1

Beebop Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 If I deselect everything as shown and 'Save' the mission under a different name will the GUI map the player sees in-game also not have the "stock" text names? This would go a long way to making missions that are not supposed to be on the map in use such as missions that take place not in that actual area but a similar looking area or even "Faux Pacific" missions. Bonus Points Question: Then could you use Translator Icons with text "renaming" the towns that would show as they do now on the player's GUI map or is this just an ME trick for ease of editing? TIA.

What you're asking for and what OP's issue was are two different things. OP's issue was that when using a template that 1C provided (from your template's folder), you would get Translator: Icon MCUs within each city group. I only showed him out to easily remove the Icon MCUs. You're asking if you can remove the names from the map interface. Unfortunately, you can't replace the names on the map. The names on the map for these cities can't be removed. However, you can add Translator: Icon MCUs be on top of the city names as labels for your faux location. It won't look pretty, but most players are pretty forgiving when it comes to great missions. Adding Translator: Icon MCUs to add labels to the GUI map. Both the icon label and the name of the city on the GUI map will show up in the mission. The Translator: Icon MCU will be much bolder and grow and shrink depending on the zoom level. This is what it looks like in the game. As you can see, it's not perfect and may need some alignment, but it can work to make you faux location. Regarding your Bonus Question: You can't rename the GUI map at all. I hope this helps, and if you have other questions, let me know.
