WIS-Redcoat Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 (edited) Using sim shaker and a buttkicker (solo) and it’s simply amazing, very much better that what I had hoped for. My question is, how does a single buttkicker in solo mode compare to a duel arrangement? The softwares notes that they work in stereo but does anyone have any practical experience to share? For instance, would it be in "stereo" and worth it to use this? It seems to me it would NOT be in stereo given there is only one amp. https://thebuttkicker.com/buttkicker-individual-seat-control-system-bka-130-c-2-mini-lfe/ Edited October 18, 2020 by WIS-Redcoat
Bob100 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I have 2 AuraSound 50W transducers connected to a wooden box that my cockpit chair is bolted to (see attached pictures). They are powered by a 200W Dayton Audio bass shaker amp, with outputs to left & right audio channels. My SimShaker Sound Module software is configured for stereo mode. I cannot give you a mono vs stereo comparison since I have never run this setup with just 1 shaker. However, the SimShaker software (coupled with SimShaker for Aviators) is advertised as sending stereo signals to the shakers, as long as your amp supports left & right channels. For example, during a landing touchdown, if the left wheel hit the runway first, the left shaker would be actuated, then when the right wheel makes contact the right shaker would actuate. I would guess damage effects to a plane would be treated the same way, e.g., damage to left wing versus right wing. As you can see in the photo, my shakers are only mounted about 14" apart and they are both attached to the same piece of wood, so I do not feel a lot of distinct vibration from the left shaker versus the right shaker. My primary reason for installing 2 transducers was to primarily "beef-up" the total vibration effect, and, take advantage of the stereo amp capabilities. I will have to make some "banked" landings to force one of the main landing gear to hit the runway before the other, then see if I can feel any distinct vibration on one side of my seat versus the other. I don't know how your transducers would be mounted, but from the above discussion, you would probably get the best left-right stereo effect if they were spaced a fair distance apart. 1
Creep Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 @Bob100 That is a gorgeous setup you have there!
Bob100 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Thanks. Was a lot of fun constructing it. The seat and platform box were originally built in the mid-1990s. During the past year, I built the 2 side consoles and bought the Warthog HOTAS and TM MFD panels. Then built new mounting apparatus for the stick & MFDs Having the side panels on each side of the seat enhances the feeling of stepping into a real cockpit. The new bass shakers add a nice effect. Using a 34" curved monitor in 1440P. Couple more pictures attached. 1
