Hi,

I recently downloaded OpenComposite for VR to use instead of Steam VR. I downloaded from the Reddit page - https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/9nxixe/systemwide_installation_for_opencomposite_released/).

When I went to download from this page some boxes appeared and then dissapeared on my screen and soon afterwards my computer was hacked... of course it might just be a coincidence, but after resetting my PC to a fresh install of Windows 10 and downloading all my apps and programs again, I am reluctant to use the same source for OpenComposite.

Can someone please advise me of a trustworthy source from which to download this handy utility?

Does anyone have experience of downloading from - https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencomposite/

Thanks in advance,

Algy-Lacey

It's legit, I get it from here from start. This is the official repository of this project, so 100% safe (unless the devs them self get hacked obviously).

The newest hotfix yesterday has seriously disabled my older Open Composite install. If I attempt to start the sim I get an immediate PC freeze with a popup that explains that the OpenComposite can no longer work. I read somewhere that this was a new problem because of the lack of support from Microsoft(?) I've come to depend on Open Composite for increased FPS and to be able to use NeckSaver, sooooo is there ant solution or workaround that will solve this problem?

( Posting from ATAG https://mixed-news.com/en/microsoft-...mixed-reality/

According to a statement from Microsoft (via UploadVR, see sources below), it will no longer be possible to download the Mixed Reality Portal app or Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR starting November 1, 2026. And according to an anonymous Microsoft source that reached out to UploadVR, the "future release of Windows" in question will arrive in late 2024. Anyone who installs this Windows 11 update or later one will no longer be able to set up a WMR headset on their Windows PC. The statement reads:
"Existing Windows Mixed Reality devices will continue to work with Steam until users upgrade to a version of Windows that does not include Windows Mixed Reality."

As an owner of a HP Reverb, it's time for me to save money for a new other brand headset.)

When I disabled recently added VR Enhancer 6.7 Mod I got everything back including NeckSaver...so at least for now :ALL GOOD!

Got a Quest 3 for Xmas and would love to try iL2 in VR per the method outlined in the youtube link I've enclosed. I just downloaded the OpenOVR-openxr app per his instructions from the GitHub page. After I extract it I cannot find the opencomposite.exe file anywhere in the program folder in order to open the "open composite runtime switcher" to switch it to open composite. This per the youtube video: Am I doing something wrong? This is frustrating.

Do the system wide installation: https://github.com/aashishvasu/OpenComposite/blob/main/README.md

Download: https://znix.xyz/OpenComposite/runtimeswitcher.php?branch=openxr

You may have to extract it with 7zip or similar?

Drewm3i, Sorry I'm just seeing your reply now. I thought I'd get an email from the forum when I get a response. Anyway, thanks for your advice. I actually just yesterday got OpenXR Toolkit up and running and the difference visually, is pretty dramatic! Thanks again.
