Oops001 Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Hi all, I haven't played iL2 in a long time and I was wondering if the game recognises the Xbox joypad as I can't seem to get it to work and when I go into the settings it's a little daunting. I do have a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4 but I can't seem to get that to work either, I would of assumed that the game would recognise these controllers and assigned the key binds? Sorry for being such a noob but I just got a new computer that's capable of doing this game justice and I thought I'd give it a go.
Monksilver Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 It could be that you need to add your joystick in as a controller in the settings screen in Windows. Or you need to add drivers for it. I can't really help I'm afraid but here is a link to a forum which might be of some use https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/thrustmaster-hotas-x-and-windows-10-problem.522033/ Hope that helps and good luck
[DBS]Browning Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 You must manually assign the controls after plugging the controller in and starting the game (in that order). Your Thrustmaster will work far better than the joypad.
CountZero Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 (edited) I use logitech gamepad f310 and f710, game recognises them and automaticly asignes buttons and axis but i just re edit them to what i get used to do in old il-2 or dcs, works just fine and they are great for playing without big hussle. co199 Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 I posted this over on reddit, but I think you might find it useful here too: Note: Don't expect to do well with these settings online. If you are going to play MP, invest in a joystick / throttle / pedals and a Track-IR. Otherwise you are putting yourself at a disadvantage and you probably won't have fun. With that disclaimer out of the way, I don't play MP at all, sticking primarily to stock careers or PWCG / Easy Mission Generator missions. I use an Xbox controller since mouse flight is pretty bad. Here are the mappings I've found that work for me: Left Thumbstick: Elevator + Ailerons Right Thumbstick: Camera (turn sensitivity down to zero and deadzone as needed, I use 24 horizontal and 28 vertical) Triggers: Rudder (inverted) RB: Throttle Up LB: Throttle Down A: Fire Guns B: Bombs Y: Rockets X: Wheel brakes Start: Pause Select: Level-flight (can also map this to the map if you want) D-Pad Up: Flaps Up D-Pad Down: Flaps Down D-Pad Right: Gear D-Pad Left: Map what you want here, I use it for bomb ripple options You will need to map lesser used stuff to the keyboard - trim (watch Requiem's videos for trim settings), unlocking tailwheel, lights, etc. In options, turn on: Rudder assist Radiator / Prop assist (you will be less optimized, but it's just not reasonable to do prop management without a full hotas) You can also turn on other assists as you see fit; I use simplified physics to make it a little lighter on rudder work. This works pretty well for me flying most planes; I spend most of my time in the Mustang, Jug, Lightning and 109; of these the 109 is the easiest to manage with this. Just remember to set your trim properly for elevator or you'll be fighting the joystick the whole time.
