Hello, I'm considering creating a coop rescue mission in Po2. At least one of them should land in a field, wait a little, and then take off as the rescued person is supposed to be onboard. The problem is to find a place which is not an airfield where you can reasonably land and take off, especially in Po2.

In all my attempts, the landing goes well in most cases, but the plane would'nt advance once it has stopped.

I understand that you can edit the terrain, but it doesn't work in multiplayer. I have also considered using a disguised airfield for that, but there are no tree objects.

Does someone know of spots where you can take off in Po2, especially on Velikie Luki map, summer ?

Best regards,

Ogier

In the Po2, you can pretty much take off from anywhere. If you're having issues, maybe have the player land and take off from a road. Landing in the middle of a city on a road could be exciting!

Roads.

i think due to the small size, the Po2 wheels get stuck more so than others if you go off roading. Its been a while since i was testing it properly, but when i've done it lately in a Po2, i get stuck every time i go on the grass.

The only plane that can take off and land "anywhere" is the Ju52 in my experience.

Sketch is right - Landing in towns, or on the long wide tree lined roads in kuban is super fun.

The long tree lined roads on kuban may be the winner for you (central NE) in this case - i made up logic to do something simular there.

Po2, A20, Stukas, Ju52s and Il2s can land and take off again on straight roads with a >90% success rate, as long as they stay on the brown. everything else i couldnt make work (88s, 111s,110s), or didnt try (Fighters)

Thanks ! I'll give it a try ?

I was originally thinking of a clearing, but a mid town landing would be something epic ?

Sadly field textures are imported from the peat bogs found in the Moors of England.  All planes, even WWI and the Po-2 are so heavy they sink up to their axles and all you can do is get out and walk to the nearest farm (or town) and see if the farmer (or stable owner) will rent you his horse or ox to pull the plane on to a harder surface.

The ability to flatten and harden a small area of land through the (disabled) landscape editor or maybe an object similar to the "Temporary Runways" of 1946 would go a long way to making missions with makeshift landing areas where no airfields exist.  The Stalingrad map is notorious for not having any airfields in the NW corner and Moscow is not much better.

I know, I know, historical.  But don't you think that both sides would use at least liaison aircraft to get "mid-management" generals to the front to see what was going on?  Those planes would need something to land on near the front lines.  As currently configured it's a one-way trip.  (now that you mention it that's a very Russian way to deal with problematic generals isn't it?)
