Escorting cruiser HMS Liverpool is torpedoed by a Savoia-Marchetti Sparviero and loses her bow, with 30 killed. She is towed stern first to Alexandria for temporary repairs, then given a complete overhaul in the neutral USA at the Mare Island Navy Yard in California. She will return to service in December 1941. 6
