Ok so after thinking about vr for a long time I took a shot with quest 2 with the oculus link cable. The look and feel of vr is quite amazing. I really like it but... I cannot get the visuals clear enough. It’s ok but gauges at a normal position are not clear. If I zoom in the gauges are clear but not at normal view. They somewhat blurry. There is also massive shimmering in the cockpit and the landscape. I’ve tried all sorts of settings both in game and in the oculus app and using the oculus tray tool to set ss as high as 1.8. I’ve increased resolution all the way up in the oculus app but nothing has worked to make the gauges clear and get rid of the awful shimmering in the cockpit and the landscape. I have tried more or less AA, high shadows, no shadows, blurred landscape, sharp landscape, sharpen, no sharpen etc.

i have tried to get the graphics right regardless of how the game runs. My 1080 isn’t up to the task for high settings. Performance is not my goal until my 3080 arrives. Just want to see a clear picture to determine if vr is for me. From reviews and comments I have seen good things about the clarity of quest 2 but for the life of me I can’t  can’t clean up the blurry gauges at anything but 2 inches away from them and get rid of the horrid shimmering. I haven’t done anything with asw, can that cause the blurriness and shimmering? Lastly. I can’t get rid of the damn blue circle. Had read a lot on that too but the solutions haven’t worked and I’ve seen others say older fixes no longer work.

I’d love to keep this and join the vr brigade and would appreciate any help with these issues.

Weird. I think gauges are very clear at 1.0, let alone 1.3 that I tried for fun, where they are really sharp, basically better than 1080p monitor. I've got GTX 1080 too, I assume you've got latest drivers installed?

I got shimmering and flickering with low quality clouds and yeah, some AA flickering too because I'm rocking AA off. But that's not problem of Q2, it's GPU.

Try to mess with right ctrl+numpad 1, 2 and 4. I sometime just switch between those modes and it runs better. I believe ctrl+1 and 4 are asw off.

I have a problem of reticle disappearing when I am at opponent's dead six. It is fine when I have to take a deflection shot: I can see the reticle clearly against the sky. But the whole thing basically disappears when aiming straight, especially if the opponent is leaking fuel or emitting heavy smoke. I know a mod can adjust the brightness, but I can't use it online. Any tips?

Thanks  for your thoughts on this Pekka_Rayha. I installed most recent Nvidia drivers and the gauges look better for sure. What I have noticed about the shimmering or flickering is that it happens on my monitor also which I always figured was due to the 49 inch 1080 p tv I use. But now that I have the headset the issue is far more pronounced. In vr it shows up around the gauges and various straight lines in the cockpit. And outside the plane it is all over the distant scenery like ground, trees etc. it isn’t bad on the tv but in vr it just ruins the graphics. I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of it and since not everyone complains about it i think it must be something in my game or Nvidia settings, but what I don’t know. Any ideas welcome!!

Anisotropic filtering?

Anisotropic filtering?

Tried up to 8 AF,  no difference to the flickering/shimmering. Tried AA up to 8 MSAA and AA off in game. Used enhance application and set quality to high in Nvidia but didn’t help.

So I am new to vr and there is more I don’t understand than what I do understand. I’m on Quest 2 with link so using Oculus pc app. My biggest question for now is with Oculus render resolution vs Steamvr per eye resolution. When playing il2 does the oculus render resolution setting have any bearing on how the game looks or is that controlled by Steamvr per eye resolution setting?

I know there are other settings that impact

visuals such as ss in the oculus tray tool, bitrate and other stuff. I don’t understand how those interact or cancel out certain steamvr and game settings.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with these things.
