kiershar Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I've noticed that if a yak-1 takes a very light fuel load, it can outclimb and outrun a bf109. My question is : does anyone know what is the fuel load difference in % required for the yak-1 to outperform the bf109? Also, will there be restrictions on fuel loads? It would be nice if the minimum you can take would be at least 30 or 40%.
sturmkraehe Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Currently fuel load is of not so much importance because of the very short mission times and the air quake character of multiplayer. I guess as soon as real mp missions are available with longer mission times, 30% fuel would be more a drawback than an advantage due to reduced air times.
SYN_Mike77 Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I don't know about BoS yet but I do know that in RoF the server can lock the fuel loads at whatever they want. 1
Matt Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Even with low fuel load, the Yak-1 is not faster than the 109. Of course, with a lower fuel load, it might be able to outclimb a 109. Not sure what % you would need for that, assuming that the 109 pilot sticks to 100 %. I'm guessing a 30-40% difference should be enough. In any case, if you go full throttle and rich mixture all the time, you currently have enough fuel for around 40-50 minutes in the fighters, so with 30%, you can fly about 15-20 minutes, if you're not taking care of fuel economy. Overall, i think most people will take close to 80-100% in a realistic mission anyway. The reason why people fly with low fuel load now, is the very low time limit and because you'll see the enemy in a few minutes already. I'm not sure how BoS servers can be setup, in RoF you could lock the fuel load at a specific level for each planetype, so you cannot specify a minimum fuel load only, which is a bit of an issue (but again, the WW1 planes had a considerable longer endurance overall). 1
AbortedMan Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 BoS dedicated server config contains options for locking fuel to a minimum/maximum. This was seem during my time on the tester team.
=LD=Hethwill Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Yak has 4 tanks for a total of 409. F-4 a little less, 401. Even so, the 700km range of the Yak come into play against the less fuel for the F 109 with 880 km range. It is a life saving margin. For the "career" and Campaign fans, the amount fuel is a ever present daily consideration. I would like to see the fuel option in liters/range of flight rather than %%.
Brano Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Fully loaded Yak has roughly 320kg of fuel in its tanks. So at 50% fuel load you are 160kg lighter, which is quite a number. Is fuel consumption modelled yet? From my experience I can fly at least soviet planes almost forever.Fuel indicator just stays at same point.Devs input needed here.
Matt Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Yes fuel consumption is modelled. The fuel gauges don't work yet. You can easily test that by taking 10% fuel and then flying for a five or six minutes. 1
Skoshi_Tiger Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Basically you take as much fuel as you need to accomplish your intended mission but the way I see it you are at your most vulnerable during your take off, climb to height and during your preparation for landings. Over the course of an evenings flying by you would be placing yourself in danger for a large amount of time by limiting the fuel you take. You'd be better off taking extra and climbing to a reasonable altitude then loitering observing the area and choose your battles. Once you've burnt off fuel you can take advantage of any extra maneuverability your lighter weight will give. Having extra fuel gives you more options.
SYN_Vander Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 It would be great if was possible to lock the minimum amount of fuel instead of a specific amount on the server....

Thanks Matt,I will try to test it.Me never running out of fuel is maybe because I always fly full and my longest trip was offline for 45min in LaGG3
SR-F_Winger Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) It would be great if was possible to lock the minimum amount of fuel instead of a specific amount on the server.... Agreed! @OP: Currently i use 36% in my F4 since more is not needed to complete the short 15 minute round. If you take more than needed you just penalize yourself. Edited May 21, 2014 by VSG1_Winger
SR-F_Winger Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I typically take 23% and it lasts the whole duration of the round unless I run the engine at 1.2 ata non-stop. I would put more in but then it becomes hard to fight people that takes 10% and fly with a death wish, especially when you're an energy fighter. With that duration you can actually run the F4 at 1.3 ata the whole round. My personal test showed the F4 engine holds up 25 minutes when flown at 1.3 ata constantly. So why use less in a round that only lasts 15 mins.
Volkoff Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Cool. This weekend, i will take two thimbles worth of fuel and see what the Yak-1 Series 69 can do. MJ
sturmkraehe Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I usually only take 5% fuel because that's about the duration I last on a server with loads of expert 109 vulturing 2 mins after mission start at 3 km above the vvs airfield :D
AbortedMan Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Yeah match times are a joke right now. I'm taking a BoS MP break until it's up to a decent amount of time.

Turn around, make a little height observe and then jump one of the 109 treetop turners. Thats the way i do it with YAKs. Edited May 22, 2014 by VSG1_Winger
LLv34_Flanker Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 S! Now it will be interesting as MP time will be longer I always flew with 100% on Bf109 and around 70% on LaGG-3/Yak-1.
SR-F_Winger Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Looking forward to this as well. Back above cloudheight and 100% fuel:)
