ITAF_Rani Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Hi have the possibility to buy a good condition rift S( second hand and has 1 year and half of warranty Amazon)...how good is for IL2 ? it s a worth upgrade for Il2 than CV1? I know there is better at moment...but I would stay in this order of expenses Many thanks
dburne Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Rift S certainly has better image clarity than CV1. And an inside/out tracking system so sensors are no longer required. Audio strap is crap, I use earbuds plugged into the headset's audio jack. Mic can be iffy at times, I use a desktop mic. I have been using my Rift S pretty much daily since getting it in May 2019 and it has worked great for me. However, be aware: Rift S is on the chopping block and will be discontinued sometime early 2021. Quest 2 is releasing this week and the technology Oculus is focusing on moving forward. A stand alone mobile headset, with the ability to connect to the PC with a Link cable. I have used my original Quest with the Oculus Link cable, and was surprised how well it did. But still not as good as native PC-VR Rift S. Also - Any new device added to your Oculus account now will require you to merge your Oculus account with a Facebook account. As far as performance, the Rift S runs at 80 Hz versus the CV1 at 90Hz, so you should fine the performance of Rift S to be about the same as CV1, even with the better image clarity. 1

For me, I don't get into all the social aspects with my VR headset. And I don't care for Oculus forcing me to tie a Facebook Account in with my PC-VR gaming headset. Just a personal choice thing and I am sure many will have no problem with it. I have been a big fan of Oculus for a long time and have very much enjoyed first the Rift CV1, then the Rift S along with the original Quest. But I don't want to go down this route with being forced to have a Facebook account to use any new Oculus devices. I have a Reverb G2 on pre-order, and will continue just using my Rift S until then. They are not forcing folks that already have Oculus headset to tie in to Facebook yet. But any new device added to the account will be. 2
Ribbon Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 As dburne i also moved from cv1 to rift s and now preordered g2. Image clarity is quite better on Rift S and that removable rubber around nose gives you ability to use keyboard and other stuff with ease. Everything else not so much, poor audio (use earplugs), bit less comfortable, heavier, no mechanical ipd adjustement (only software ipd adjustment) but again it's all about image quality in VR so it's definitely noticable, worthy and enjoyable upgrade over CV1. If price is good and other VR headsets are out of option (index, reverb, G2, quest-2) than it's a no brainer imho.

BornToBattle Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Same advice here too. Once Facebook (which I don’t use and won’t) put the Rift line on the chopping block and I saw the HP Reverb G2 coming around the corner, well, my pre-order is in. At 90mHz refresh rate and substantially improved resolution that’s the biggest reason(s) I bit for the G2 particularly if your in a flight sim where you need all the clarity you can get for reading those small gauges within the cockpit, let alone spotting. In my case there’s nothing particularly wrong with the Rift S I have as it was a step up resolution-wise from the original Rift and one of the bigger items too was it’s inside-out tracking - which the Rift doesn’t have, I just wanted even better resolution..The one thing I did not like about the Rift S is the fact the IPD is software driven, not mechanical as the original Rift was..This isn’t such an issue if your the only one using it though. Set it and forget it. In your case the Rift S would keep you within your budget and it’s a decent VR headset without having to break the bank and better resolution than the CV1.
