DD_bongodriver Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 it's quite an interesting one, has much more credibility than another recent idea, look forward to following it's progress.
DKsvejseko Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Im still puzzled about flicking swithes and typing keybord commands while wearing VR goggles. I know there are a glance window, but will that do?
DD_bongodriver Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Simple solution, don't use keyboard commands and map everything to a HOTAS and/or have a click pit.
Matt Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Or practice hitting the right key on your keyboard without looking at it. They do have a very ambitious road map though.. Interesting that they offer wireless too, but i guess the delay might still be too high to make people use that mode instead.
DKsvejseko Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Hmm, i do like the idea of free head movement, but im about to start a simpit build with controls, though not with mockup fuselage. Dont like HOTAS with ww2 simulator with 22 buttons on the stick and 24 on the throttle.
Desode Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Im still puzzled about flicking swithes and typing keybord commands while wearing VR goggles. I know there are a glance window, but will that do? I'm with you on this, I guess it would have to be a Very mind blowing experience for me to want to feel around in the Dark for a button or key to press. If voice commands ever got to a truly flawless application , I may consider VR googles, but right now I just dont really have much desire for it. Desode 1
SR-F_Winger Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) This is no true VR device. Some mtbs3d voices say that there is false advertising in their kickstarter page. i.e. lower than advertised FOV, positional tracking not really possible this way. One is definately better off spending his moeny in the DK2 or Consumerversion of the Oculus Rift. There is a reason why brilliant minds like John Carmack and alike work for Oculus... If ordered today the DK2 arrives in august. Earlier than the AntVR. If you ask me this is just another company that tries to jump on the train of VR and get their share of the money thats to be made from it. Noone can blame them for it however:) Im still puzzled about flicking swithes and typing keybord commands while wearing VR goggles. I know there are a glance window, but will that do? I am pretty certain the Consumer version of the rift will have an intelligent solution to that. The first thing that comes to mind are just two cameras at the front of the headset that project their image to the screen at a press of a certain button. Edited May 21, 2014 by VSG1_Winger
JG27_Chivas Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) There are rumors that the Oculus Team are working on adding forward facing camera along with the external camera. The external camera is used for positional tracking, while the internal camera could be used for an external view, but more importantly tracking arm/body movements etc. Edited May 21, 2014 by JG27_Chivas
JG27_Chivas Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 There have been a number of interesting projects suddenly appear, especially after Oculus experienced some negative PR with the Facebook acquistion. There isn't enough verified information to make an evaluation of their merits, and I'm looking forward to seeing their products prototypes tested and reviewed at the tech shows like E3 in June.
