=IRFC=NakedSquirrel Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Since the latest patch, I can't see contacts past !2km. Is there a setting/config option I can change? My friends playin flat screen talk about contacts at 10k+ but even when I zoom in I can't see them. I don't even render the smoke of fires near cities until I'm within 2-3km.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Without knowing your system, some causes we've mapped in the past, one was: Lower resolution headsets (mostly first generation like Rift CV1, Vive, etc.) with overdone SuperSampling which means the information about an object gets lost in the downsampling process.
=IRFC=NakedSquirrel Posted October 10, 2020 Author Posted October 10, 2020 Sorry. I am using the HP Reverb. I've tried lowering the resolution in Steam VR, but I still haven't been able to spot distant contacts. I've tried dropping FXAA for TXAA, but that didn't seem to make any difference either. It honestly seems like flak, contacts, and tracers 'pop' into view at ~2km. I was on the Combat Box server yesterday, a friend over comms was guiding me to a dogfight "1 o'clock' of the nose." I tried zooming in, zooming out, but I couldn't see anything. It wasn't until I got within a certain range that suddenly a ton of flak, contacts, and tracers popped into view. It's looking like the game isn't rendering anything at all past a certain distance.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Try in SP. In MP, some things are rendered or spawned in late in order to save ressources. They don't exist while you don't see them. Don't use MSAA or FXAA in Reverb, it's not necessary. Try to avoid SuperSampling too much here as well, aim for a vertical supersampling setting of 2300p max, while keeping MSAA/FXAA off. Also, make sure your headset faces forward while you start up the game for the first time, and that the mouse pointer is centered as well. Some had reported issues with flank biased culling, as the original orientation seems to be important for the range of it.
356thFS_Piranha Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 SCG_Fenris_Wolf What do you mean by a Vertical supersampling? Where is this setting located? Thanks

So planes further than that won't show up (sometimes). But it sounds like the fight was closer than this, so maybe you have some other issue. 10km is not very far for the late war planes, you can traverse that in less than a minute, and if you and a bandit are closing head-on, around 30 seconds only.
=IRFC=NakedSquirrel Posted October 15, 2020 Author Posted October 15, 2020 Forgot to reply I figured out the problem. Fenris is right about the "flank biased culling" My "Pilot Head Control" re-bound to the mouse with one of the recent game patches. It doesn't move the pilot head, but if the control is moved, you can't see contacts in front of you. I've deleted the axis and am now spotting contacts again without issue. ? Good to know that can happen with the game start as well.
