Pilot injuries/red vision

Hello, I'm trying to get back into the Il2 series after almost 20 years since I played the original game and I really don't understand how injuries to the pilot are simulated in CoD.

Example: I tried several times a quick mission where I'm in a Hurricane wing attacking some Dorniers and two or three times when I approached the bombers I got a permanent red vision but no visible damage on the cockpit...is it considered a consequence to a head wound?

Yes, red vision means that damage is in you, the pilot.

...that means I was very unlucky then,  oh well at least it was an alternative way to die from the usual engine blast caused by mismanagement!
