Couple of issues with the Gladiator :(

First one, hitting 'i' should toggle the engine off.... I just can't get it to stop the engine?

Second question, is there any ammunition that can set a Br.20 or Cr.42 alight? I have tried AP in guns 1 and 4 and incendiary in guns 2 and 3.....I cannot take an engine out, I see a bit of debris and the only time I got close was when there was a tiny flame on the elevator which quickly ended and yet they all bailed out ?

Really want to try and fire up either of those aircraft but not seeing anything significant ?

Cheers, MP

No, it shouldn't. As far as I know, on most ot the aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s, this "I" key means that, when you hit it, the mechanics come around your plane and collaborate with you so that you can fire up your engine (and this is the role played by your "I" key on you keyboard: "i" represents the mechanics' part of the job). One typical method, back in the 1930s/1940s, consists in opening the fuel cocks and switching on the magnetos because you are IN THE COCKPIT... while in the meantime, OUTSIDE, the mechanics use a manual crank to crank up the crankshaft. With the help of the gods, and the gods usually bring some help, one or more spark plugs will light the spark that will start the engine. So... that "I" key is not a switch button that turns the engine on... or off, it is only a way for the simulator to represent the engine's start-up process in the simulation. In the old "IL-2 1946" and in the Great Battles series, the "E" key starts and stops the engine... and this is wrong (limited simulation). in "Cliffs of Dover", the "I" key allows the mechanics to crank up the engine if you turned on the fuel cocks and/or other devices on board... but it doens't allow to turn the engine off... and this is right (it's a better simulation). When I'm landed and I want to turn my engine off, I simply turn off both magnetos. Furhtermore, if my aircraft is badly hit and I'm forced to proceed to a belly landing... far before I land I turn the magnetos off so that not even the slightest amount of electricity flows on board. This reduces the possibility of setting the engine on fire (the engine or the oil tank, the fuel tanks, etc).

Sorry my friend, I have no idea. I hope some expert on ammos will bring an answer on that matter.

Read some documentation on the subject. I'm still learning and I'm mainly a French-speaking reader, so I can't really help on this. But I'm sure that others can and I hope they'll intervene very shortly on this the present thread.

For stop engines in CloD:

- Spit, Hurri, Blein, Beau... can just use "Slow Running Cut Out" - some have this command clickable, for Tiger Moth turn off Fuel Cock or Magneto Switches.

- For German and Italian planes turn off Fuel Cock or turn off Magnetos Switches.
