"• On or around this date [80 years ago], the Arkhangelsky Ar-2 has its first flight. It is an attempt to update the 1934 design Tupolev SB bomber. Although an improvement and an accurate dive bomber it is too slow and underarmed with overheating Klimov 1,100hp engines. 190 will be produced before production shifts to the Petlyakov Pe-2. They will operate in SB equipped squadrons until withdrawn from service in 1943. "
