zhutwo Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 On 1080p I can see dots okay with enhanced vis, but I have a hard time making out enough silhouette details to ID planes at distance. A higher rez monitor should help with this but I've read that a higher rez monitor previously would make it harder to spot dots because they'd be rendered smaller. What's the situation like now?
SharpeXB Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 In 4K distant aircraft appear as very small but distinct sharp specks and they can be identified quite far away.

What's the situation like now? using 1440p, the spotting improvement helped out a lot. I don't think they are disadvantaged much, especially if you get the higher res monitor larger. I don't think high rest is a problem for spotting. Distant ID can still be an issue as the scaling you see at max FOV doesnt stay the same, so when you zoom in on a distant aircraft you don't get a lot of extra detail at long range - but the lower resolutions aren't any better for sure. Still, I would say that comparing apples to apples, for ID purposes its better to have a higher resolution monitor, and spotting is probably close to the same.. Just make sure your card can run the higher res.
