IL2 Great Battles on Integrated Desktop Graphics

Just curious to know if anyone is playing IL2 on integrated graphics on a desktop?

Before you react with a noooooooo.....

My reason:

I'm waiting for the GPU shakeout of the high end Nvidia cards, and the AMD Big Navi cards to play out before I pull the trigger on a GPU for my new build.  Looking at what prices will be, etc.

My new build is an i7-10700K on a Gigabyte Aorus Z490 board, with 16G of Patriot DDR4400 memory.

This replaces a vintage i5-2500K OC'd to 4.5Ghz, Radeon HD 6950, with a Gigabyte P67 motherboard, and 16G DDR31600 memory.  Surprisingly enough I could play BoS and BoM on framerates of around 40FPS with that rig.  Of course I was using low settings, but I was really surprised that I could play without too much time dilation and too many dropped frames.  Once I purchased BoK...well that was a change.  Frames really dropped and my system now shows its age.  Still, an 8 year run is pretty admirable.

I've seen people around who have accidentally played on internal graphics because their screen was using the integrated graphics card on the motherboard rather than the dedicated one they had. Generally they got poor performance but it did seem to run, albeit at low settings.

Basically, they were askign "I have a GTX 1080 why am I only getting 35FPS on Low settings?" and the answer was they were playing it on integrated graphics.

So it is likely possible depending on the chip, but it won't be a very good experience. The time dilation only happens when the processor is overloaded.

Thanks RedKestrel.  I figure while the dust settles on the GPU world and I pull the trigger on  something , I'll run the game from the integrated.  Probably will be better than running with a 2 gig HD 6950 as I'm doing right now....I wonder if I can throw that card in just for giggles.

You could always give it a shot!

I think I actually did that ony laptop. It was a i7-9750H. I recall it being very marginal, but if you turn enough stuff down it could be playable on an interim basis, but it wasn't pretty.

Well, I gave the onboard IG a try and it was a slideshow on the Kuban map, and not really good framerates on a one v one...so I installed my 6950HD and made it somewhat playable, but still will need to upgrade to enjoy the sim.  Looking forward to whatever shakeout happens in the coming month or two for GPUs.

Technically I can't really play anything above 1080p, so the monitor will be replaced in the future again.  Really not interested in 4K, more like 1440 is fine.
