HR_Zunzun Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 The report about the seat position says that only 45º tilting start showing representative differences, and only in the realm of a 1/4G improvement. No fighter in the disccusion reach anything near than angle. Now it is arguing that the position of the feet are the important thing. But we do we have any test supporting this (I just gave a quick read to the test and didn´t see it)? For as much as logic and phisiology will tell us that it will surely have an impact (I think it does), the important key is the degree. We have seen that all fighter seats are tilted to some degree but quite below what the report stated as the minimum. Feet position effect could also be insignificant. Finally for what I can see on the differences of the different seats and feet positions is that there is just a few degrees in between them. So, if there is an improvement in some of them so there is in the others, and the differences I would risk to guess would really small (as to be worth of modelling). 1

Let me ask this When the Hurricane is chasing the 109E in a dive which aircraft would be pulling more Gs to exit said dive? 3 hours ago, 71st_AH_Barnacles said: Ok. A good starter for 10 will be to determine whether there's a quantifiable difference in the seating positions of the aircraft in question. As far as backrest angle is concerned the spit and 109 are 13 degrees and the d9, p51 and hurricane are 18 degrees. And for the leg position, if the higher footrests are used, the hurricane seems pretty similar to the 109. Now we might be able to measure this exactly. Maybe we could ask 1c as to what shoe size their virtual pilot is, inside leg measurements, whether they dress to the right or left etc? If you didn't use the cosine formula, your numbers are wrong. Also, it looks like you are trying to make your 109 pilot fit your argument. It was a great talk - the idea is to bring this up to the developers and let them do whatever they want to do with the RAF report. X-Man out! 1

69th_chuter Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 I have a full size copy of a an original 109G10 print showing all movable surfaces rigging and travel and includes boost tab equipped ailerons. These boost tabbed ailerons wouldn't have been deemed necessary on early 109s for two reasons, 1) the higher relative speed of the 109 versus its enemies meant it didn't have to rapidly maneuver at higher speeds and 2) that same higher speed was relatively slow by later 109 models standards. In the end the boosted ailerons were never installed (at least in a functional way) though the reason is unknown, possibly due to the tab adversely effecting the ailerons at slower speeds.

Unless you can not see the humor, yes, since you clarified that.
