Skins in Single Player

I never bother with skins - neither understand why some people want use AVG skins in North Africa P-40's, or a 1941 "Ostfront" winter skin in "B of B" Bf 109. ?

 

But recently set for Spitfires show marks for 54 Squadron in an mission, what are show correct for AI wingman's planes, but Player plane show letters from other squadron. 

 

For what I see, the squadron and skin selected in Options >  Plane prevails over missions skins, so is needed set there in accord with mission.

 

Can select another skin in Player Plane when mission load, before hit FLY, but can't change the squadron here, unless have a custom skin with squadron marks, in this case leaving marks off.

It might depend on who wrote the mission but some missions put you in the correct skin for that mission  and some tell you which one to select to be authentic. In both cases you can usually select your own personal skin if you want though there may be a way for mission designers to lock that.
