Hi guys

Long time iL2er, finally decided it's time to build a PC again.

This is the planned machine, waiting for the 3070s or 6000 series AMDs and will hopefully be close in price.

Played alot of iL2 FB with AEP and spent even more time playing 1946 on the Skies of Valor server through Hyper Lobby.

I've got the BoS version that I occasionally dabble on my laptop with. Hoping to add all the titles but can't drop quite that much right out of the gate.

I occasionally play warthunder on console but found the devs don't spend much time on the sim community there.

Cheers

Denum

My recommendation would be either Kuban or Bodenplatte. Kuban has the most diverse map and one of the better plane sets, and Bodenplatte has the iconic Western planes in their late-war form.

If you get the first one, Stalingrad, you'll be able to play in any MP servers, most German planes along with the Spitfire/P-40 are still available in the late war server. If you're strapped on $ you can always get a premium for any title without buying the entire thing.

You don't need to own the series to play the map on multiplayer.

Was thinking Bodenplatte and Normandy. I'm a spitfire fanatic and soon as I saw that 5 bladed prop it was too late!

Is iL2s multiplayer similar to Warthunders enduring conflict?

Normandy is in early stages of development, so very few items are currently available. I wouldn't recommend it yet unless you already own the other WW2 products.

Bodenplatte or Kuban would be a great choice if you like Spitfires (Mk.V or IX).

I'm not very familiar with War Thunder, but I can say that Il-2 GB has featured a variety of servers. These range from pure dogfights to longer campaigns.

As other posters have said, Normandy is still in development so the only Spits you have right now are the Vb and the IX. The IX is a barrel of fun, though.

MP is not really the persistent World at War scenario like WT has, but each server is different depending on the mission creation. Some do have more campaign-style missions, though.

PC likely won't be done until November/December, so I'm not in a huge rush to do anything just yet.

With the multiplayer though there's definite goals on the maps or is it just pick a target to escort or bomb and away you go?

Oh be still my beating heart!

Do they run no markers etc?

I think I found my home!!!

Most servers run without markers/icons, CombatBox have training server with icons turned on, I think this is most popular not training server with icons and Normal realisam settings http://72ag-ded.su:8080/en/ , majority servers run on Expert realisam settings, some turn off even more stuff.

If you have BoS i would just get Bodenplatte when on next 50% discount and you will be able to play online on most servers with airplanes you would have, you dont have to have map to play on it online, you just have to have atleast one airplane that is available by mission maker. BoK is good its usealy on 75% sales so its good to get it then if your not in hurry.

MP is more like what you expirianced in 1946 in SoValor server then in WT.

Most servers run without markers and icons which means navigation is as much of a challenge as the combat.

Combat Box is the go-to for western front combat, Finnish Virtual Pilots has a moving dynamic frontline with combined arms on east and western front scenarios, Wings of Liberty is objective based although a little less objective focused than the other servers, and Berloga is where you want to go if you just want to get into a dogfight quickly (airstart, 30 seconds to target, etc.). Finally TAW is a seasonal experience with limited virtual lives and available aircraft for the ultimate challenge.

ClownsDynCampaign is not very busy but it's the old Coconut style campaign.  Fun but I think the maps roll to often.

No icons but GPS

If your budget can handle it, get a VR - it's a total blast. I sat my friend at my rig this week to do some flying (he played a tiny bit of old Il2 years ago) and he was completely mesmerized by the experience.

Well multiplayer in IL 2 is somewhat similar. Most of the time u have a frontline and multiple Airfield bases on each side where u can spawn. U have multiple or unlimited respawns. There is most of the time one or more ground objectives to attack or defend.

Something that is different from WT, most of the times planes available are determined by time and location of the battle. For example a battle set to 1943 eastern front usually does not include US fighters or late war german or soviet planes. Of course this is completely up to whoever creates the multiplayer mission.

Well there will definitely be a sale by then, and the sales are so good that you could basically purchase all of them for around the price of one normal priced package (except for Normandy; you won't get a discount on that unless you waited 2+ years)
