Sokol1 Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Single Player mission: "Drogo Rescue" "On 23 May 1940 54 Squadron Pilot Officer All Deere took part in a daring rescue operation. He and Pilot Officer Allen escorted their flight commander, James "Prof" Leathart, to France where he was to land a Miles Master trainer and pick up the CO of 74 Squadron F.L. "Drogo" White who had made a forced landing on the airfield at Calais-Marck after being damage by the return fire of an Henschel Hs 126. The pick-up was made, with Allen watching from 8000 feet and Deere circling at low level. An approaching formation of (twelve) Bf 109’s was spotted by Allen as the Master taxied out for take-off. As the Bf 109’s began their attack Deere singled one out, fired a short burst and sent it crashing into the sea. Deere, climbing to help Allen, crossed the path of two more109’s, one of which turned towards him. Deere also turned, firing at the second one, which rolled over and dived away. Pursuing the first at treetop level, he fired off his remaining ammunition before the German escaped. Heading back towards the coast Deere called up Allen and was relieved to hear him answer. In the interim the Master had taken off and headed for Hornchurch. In the action three Bf 109’s had been shot down and three others severely damaged." An AI Bf 108 "Aldon"* disguised as Miles Master (or Magister, depends on where the tale is told) will made the "rescue". A formation of twelve BF 109 of Jg 27 came along the coast, six will jump player and their AI wingman Spitfires...but no one is ace. A German army armored column advance for airfield, defended by two BEF guns, (Ctrl+F2) for camera view. Returning land in Manston airfield (IRL the "Aldon" return to Hornchurch). * "In 1939, the RAF impounded (2 or) 4 Bf 108s from the German embassy and got one from a UK dealer (A.F.N. Ltd). They operated them with No. 24 Squadron (located at Hendon) under the designation Messerschmitt Aldon (contraction of Harold John Aldington, name of the English dealer)." BTW - All default CloD skins for Jg 27 have an Yellow Nose (Hollywood effect?), not appropriated for May 1940, but "Miles" skin is my first and last attempt in this matter. ? EDIT - Shortened BF 108 skin name. Thanks to Sokol1 for this mission! Drogo_Rescue.zip 2 1
Dagwoodyt Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 (edited) I re-read that story a week or so ago in an anthology by Gavin Lyall entitled The War in the Air after nearly fifty years from my first read. Thanks! Edited September 27, 2020 by Dagwoodyt
Missionbug Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Hello Sokol1, first of all thank you very much for the mission, really appreciated. I installed as instructed, at least I think so, however, when I go to fly I have a video of the Bf-108 attempting the landing but I am watching events rather than piloting one of the aircraft and seem unable to actually pilot one which I assume to be the escort, guess I did something wrong again. Any thoughts please? It is labelled as "Single Player mission", that is the case is it? Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
Sokol1 Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 Hi, thank you for try. Despite I have tested and adjusted this mission "49+" times, sometimes unexpected things happens, e.g. one time Bf 109's strafe the "Aldon" in the ground, other a Panzer find him more interesting target than British artillery. ? But the issue you find was my mistake, before upload I decide take another look in skin - for some reason player plane skin don't show 54 Sqn letters (KL*) , but in their AI wingman is show, and this un-tick "Player" box. I upload a version with this error fixed. Anyway in CloD you can assume the control of any flyable plane in Single Player missions, just use the keys set for "Take Control of selected AI Aircraft" (set in View). "Selected" means the aircraft that camera are following (Shift+F2 for friendly, Ctrl+F2 for enemy) or select in "View Objects" (right mouse click on screen for see options). This require that in "Realism" > "Aircraft Switching" section have all "Cannot..." options un-ticked, those options are more for MP servers. BTW - In this version is not advisable player assume Bf 108 control because an script remove then after landing, and spawn a "double" for takeoff (Hollywood tricks). ? I will try make a version for player fly in the Bf 108. 1
Missionbug Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Hello again Sokol1, thank you very much for the explanation of what was amiss, really appreciated. I have downloaded the mission again from the link and will try again. Love the Magister skin hack bye the way. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
