SR-F_Winger Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) Hi folks, i created some footrests wich i am looking to have machnied in aluminium (no clue if this is doable for reasonable money). Friend of mine is CNC guy and might be able to make them for me - maybe. They should then be easy swap outs for my awesome MFG Crosswind Rudderpedals. Let me know what you think: Edited August 4, 2024 by SR-FWinger
SR-F_Winger Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Hi. Looks good to me.A nice work from your friend This is only the 3D model:) Sadly theyre not done yet. Does anyone have a clue what producing some of those would approximately cost?
ST_Pirato Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) I'm not entirely sure about the costs, but we do a lot of aluminum parts at work, usually more complicated ones though. My guess is it could easily be in the 500 Euro area including material, as machining time can be rather expensive and it would be needed to be machined from both sides. Of course it also depends on what surface finish you'd like. If it is a bit more rough surface then it could be a bit cheaper, you still could sand it yourself. You also may have to up the costs a bit,as someone would have to make the CAD files etc. But it's just my personal guess,I'm not involved in coordinating prices at work and I could be completly wrong. Edit: Ah,just saw you know someone who can machine it. My guess was if you would let make it by a company. Edited May 16, 2014 by ST_Pirato
SR-F_Winger Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 I am not sure yet if he can make it for me. Coudnt get in touch with him yet. And if maybe there is someone that sees this thread also has crosswinds, is looking to upgrade his AND is CNC dude:) you never know:) Ill keep this post updated if i manage to progress with this.
VO101_MMaister Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 It is quite a complicated part, and lot of material to cut away. Pirato's estimate is quite accurate i think. Would be cheaper to make it from sheet metal.
ST_Pirato Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Hm,not sure if it would be cheaper if the parts where made of cast aluminium, but maybe it is. You would need 2 models of the footplates made of Polystirol Foam or something like that. Though the Surface would be really rough and certainly needs a lot of work to get it to only nearly what it would be if it was machined from 1 block of aluminium. Sheet Metal for a lower and more reasonable price or machined from 1 block at a high price are the best options.
