343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Hi dudes. In my Steam library, I regularly see both links to the game: that old one that I installed almost 10 years ago... and, obviously, the BLITZ re-release of 2017. Now, for the first time in so many years, I'm trying to run "the old good one"... but it's not working! A message asks if I accept that an app introduces changes to my computer. Nothing happens whatever I do: neither by clicking on the negative answer, nor by clicking on the positive. Then I went back to my 2011 DVD and followed the installation instructions... with a successful installation instructing in the end to go to the Steam library if I want to launch the game. But, again, this leads back to the question about that application and the subsequent impasse. The old game still is in my Steam library and, thus, I should manage to run it. But it's not working, why is that? Did I miss something?
ATAG_Flare Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 I'm prettu sure that the original game prior to the TF patches will not run on Windows 8 or Windows 10.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 Thank you for your kind response, Flare, as I didn't even think about that possibility. So let's explore it: I checked the launchers and they are named differently, the one in the older game folder is named "Launcher.exe" and the one in the Blitz folder is named "Launcher64.exe". Maybe at some point in 2011 or 2012, or simply before the Blitz release in 2017, IL2CoD was upgraded and patched so that operative systems not running in 64-bit became incompatible with the game. I'm not sure, but I think that the last time I used the older version of IL2CoD, my OS was a 32-bit install of Windows 7. Now on my computer I run a 64-bit Windows 10 install. The above is nothing but an assumption of mine... does anybody have some more substantial information on the subject?
Sokol1 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 I keep an original version running up to 2013 or 14, but in a Windows 7 install. Try but are not able to make run in Windows 10. Try install the DVD will not help because Steam automatically update for 4.312, I think. Other thing, when you go test, rename the actual 1c folder in Documents (used by Blitz 5.00x), because the original version use the same folder, and .ini has differences, besides the 64 bits version, DirectX has upgraded too. When testing the 2011 don't open Blitz or will mess the .ini's , and after rename the 2011 folder e put back the one for blitz. An guy in SimHQ that are running this original version up to ~2016 swear that in original version with 2 first patches only AI behave better that actually. The posterior "performance" patches (trying improve FPS) made by Luthier broken the game in several way's, e.g. ruin spline lines, make AI more dumb. Despite the myriad of bug/issues some things are better than actually, like fires spreading in the wing, spray of leaking's...

It is too late for renaming folders as I tested the DVD install yesterday, thus before I posted here. I just proceeded to a test by launching my 5.006 and it's working. I kept testing by spawning on board a 109 Trop in the Team Fusion #3 server... and it's working. I hope my inis are correct and that I will encounter no problems in the future. Otherwise, there should be an official annoucement of Team Fusion Simulations (or Steam, or 1C...) giving instructions or warning not to launch the old DVD nor the game in the library that is not named BLITZ.
