Sokol1 Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 In Mudspike - the introduction is an insight of the war in the North Africa on the period (1940-42). The first part is a historic summary of the real campaign, skip to Part 2 for the start of the game review. ITAF_Airone1989 Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 @Chuck_Owl thank you, I really appreciate your review... And also your "old" guide...
Mender444 Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Awesome writing Chuck, had so much fun reading it. A few years late maybe, but let me thank you for the outstanding guides you wrote. I read all of them regarding warbirds.
jollyjack Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Chuck, your writings surely inspired me to spend more time with Tobruk. Now to find the time LoL ... Thanks for posting !
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 (edited) Nonsense... I edit my message as part four was published yesterday and I didn't even notice that the author was posting here: THANK YOU CHUCK! Edited September 20, 2020 by 343KKT_Kintaro
Team Fusion ATAG_Pattle Posted September 20, 2020 Team Fusion Posted September 20, 2020 Thanks Chuck.Been eagerly waiting for Part 4. Very comprehensive and balanced. Just posted the link to Part 1 on our FB, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram pages.Cheers,Pattle
Art-J Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 I'm fairly sure all Tomahawks featured a mixed armament of .50s in the fuselage and .30s in the wings rather than six .50s as the part 3 suggests (that applied to Kittyhawks), unless Brits field-modded theirs? Other than that, a very nice write-up, as usual.
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 (edited) Kittyhawk I onwards had the 6 .50 cal AFAIK. After a very quick search (sorry, it‘s in German) http://www.bredow-web.de/RAF_Museum/Curtiss_P-40_Kittyhawk_III/curtiss_p-40_kittyhawk_iii.html Edit: Sorry, kind of forgot to comment on the thread’s topic. I had read parts 1 and 2 when they were released, following up with #3 and was eagerly awaiting the final part. Read it this morning. Thanks for that, great overview. It is exactly the way I see it. Once you look (or see) past the initial „old game“ impression it is very good and a still very capable engine. Unfortunately many stop at that first impression and don‘t get to know what the game is really capable of. Edited September 20, 2020 by 9./JG52_J-HAT

Other than that, a very nice write-up, as usual. Quote The British Commonwealth and Soviet air forces used the name Tomahawk for models equivalent to the original P-40, P-40B, and P-40C, while the name Kittyhawk for models equivalent to the P-40D and all later variants. Quote Revised versions of the P-40 soon followed: the P-40B or Tomahawk IIA had extra .30 in (7.62 mm) U.S., or .303 in (7.7 mm) machine guns in the wings and a partially protected fuel system; the P-40C or Tomahawk IIB added underbelly drop tank and bomb shackles, self-sealing fuel tanks and other minor revisions, but the extra weight did have a negative impact on aircraft performance. (All versions of the P-40 had a relatively low power-to-weight ratio compared to contemporary fighters.) Yes mistake in the review: It is 2x50(nose) and 4x.303(wings) on the Tomahawk IIB/A In game we have the Tomahawk IIA (which has the correct guns in game, (P-40B/C) and Kittyhawk Mk Ia (also has correct guns for this model p-40E in game 6x.50 M2's in wings) Dif is drop tank option on the Tomahawk IIB (P-40C vs P-40B or Tomahawk IIA) List of modelled aircraft in IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover - Wikipedia Edited December 10, 2020 by =RS=Stix_09 added pics of in game plane loadouts
